I’ve had a few clients come to see me recently with sciatica pain, so I thought I’d share this informative post. It’s a great read if you’re experiencing sciatica or know someone who is.

Sciatica Pain
If you are struggling with a burning, stabbing pain that travels down your leg, you’ve likely been told it’s a "slipped disc." The source of your agony might be a mechanical trap in your glutes, not your spine.
1. The Piriformis Entrapment (The "Trap")
As shown in the visualization, the Sciatic Nerve runs directly underneath the Piriformis muscle. When this muscle becomes hypertonic or "locked," it acts like a physical clamp on the nerve. This is called Deep Gluteal Syndrome, and it’s one of the most misdiagnosed causes of chronic leg pain today.
2. The Stabilization Failure
Why does the Piriformis tighten? It’s often compensating for a weak Gluteus Minimus or a dysfunctional Greater Trochanter alignment. When your deep stabilizers fail, the Piriformis overworks to hold your hip together, resulting in that "glowing" inflammation you see in the orange hotspots.
3. Why "Normal" MRIs Miss This
Most standard lumbar MRIs only look at the L4-L5-S1 discs. They often ignore the mechanical compression happening in the hip region. This is why thousands of patients are told their spine is "fine" while they are still in debilitating pain.
