Does sugar actually CAUSE diabetes? 🍩🤔
It’s one of the most common questions we hear as Accredited Practising Dietitians: "Will eating too much sugar give me Type 2 Diabetes?"
The short answer? Eating sugar does not automatically result in a diagnosis. But there is a catch.
High consumption of refined sugars (especially sugary drinks) provides "empty calories" that easily lead to excess weight, fatty liver, and systemic inflammation. This creates a vicious feedback loop that taxes your pancreas and drives insulin resistance.
So, do you need to fear sugar and never eat it again? Absolutely not! 🚫
