🌟 September Interprofessional Education Session & Monthly Mingle! 🌟

Today, we kicked off September with an engaging Interprofessional Education (IPE) session focused on the different models of practice — uni-, multi-, inter- and transdisciplinary.

We then took a deep dive into the roles of our amazing Allied Health professionals, exploring how each discipline contributes to client care and, most importantly, how we work together as a team to achieve the best outcomes. 🤝

We finished off the morning with a lovely lunch mingle, giving everyone the opportunity to connect, catch up and build those all-important relationships across our team. 💙

🔷Members of our team attended the CMD Summit 2026 – Better Together! in Townsville this week.

It was a fantastic opportunity to promote our centre, connect with other JCU team members, share ideas and learn more about how we can work together to strengthen education, research and support across rural, regional and remote communities.

We’re proud to be part of the JCU community and look forward to building on these connections and continuing to work better together!

Our Social Work Clinical Lead and two of our students currently on placement volunteered over the weekend at the Headspace Colour Run in Emerald. 🌈💚

It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to give back to the community, get involved in a local event and further contribute to their student placement experience in Emerald.

Today we had the pleasure of visiting Clermont and connecting with some of the wonderful crew from Clermont4Doctors and ClermontCONNECT CQ, as well as the Rural Student Coordinator from JCU: James Cook University, Australia in Moranbah.

We had some great conversations about our investment in securing student accommodation in Clermont and opportunities for student placements in 2027.

It was wonderful to have the opportunity to network, share information and build connections with such passionate local community members and organisations.

We look forward to working together and building on these connections in the future! 🤝🌱

🪻🌻Today we were very fortunate to welcome the SPaRTa team from the Sunshine Coast, who visited us to deliver an educational session for our Pharmacy and Allied Health students on placement, focusing on palliative care and advance care planning.

We were also lucky to have some of our staff join the session. A huge thank you to the wonderful ladies from SPaRTa for giving up their time, sharing their knowledge and experiences, and being so willing to support and educate our students and staff.

We learnt so much about the different aspects of palliative care, end-of-life care and advance care planning. It was a valuable and insightful session for everyone involved. 💜

We are excited to welcome our new students to Emerald! 🌟

We are very fortunate to have three new Exercise Physiology students from CQUniversity and the University of New England completing their placements at the JCU Allied Health Student Led Clinic.

We have also welcomed new Nursing students, who will be completing their placements at Emerald Hospital.

It’s fantastic to support the next generation of health professionals and provide them with valuable hands-on experience in our local community. We wish all of our students a wonderful and rewarding placement! 💙

🌿 Celebrating NAIDOC Week in Blackwater 🌿

Some of our team were proud to join the Blackwater community for the 2026 NAIDOC celebrations.

It was a wonderful day of coming together, celebrating culture and community, and showing our support for the strength, history and ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

From the NAIDOC march and official ceremony to cultural dancing, family activities, local information stalls and a community barbecue, there was something for everyone to enjoy. ❤️💛🖤

We’re grateful to be part of such an important community celebration and to share in the spirit of connection, respect and reconciliation.

🎉 Proud staff moment! 🎉

A huge congratulations to our Physiotherapist in Biloela, Amelia, who won Best Presentation at the Outback Allied Health Forum in Mount Isa last week! 👏

Amelia presented on her work in Biloela as a physiotherapist, highlighting her experience working alongside physiotherapy and occupational therapy students. Her presentation showcased the value of rural placements and the positive impact they have on developing the next generation of allied health professionals.

The Outback Allied Health Forum is a fantastic opportunity for rural clinicians to connect, share innovative ideas, and explore ways to enhance placement experiences in rural and remote communities. Events like these help strengthen our rural health workforce and inspire future clinicians.

We're incredibly proud of Amelia's achievement and the passion she brings to supporting student learning and rural healthcare. Congratulations, Amelia! 🌟

Another awesome morning spent at the Emerald Parkinson’s Support Group!

At our meeting today we had 19 attendees and 5 apologies.

James Cook University gave an update with the responses from our survey. Thanks to all members and carers who contributed.

The results have certainly re-engaged my motivation and desire to see the group continue and provide a much needed service.

There was also a presentation on the groups that are available through the JCU CQCRRH Allied Health Student Led Clinic to help us in our journey.

Thanks so much to the two fabulous speech pathology students for an outstanding presentation.

Thanks to rotary for use of their clubhouse and the wonderful Rose for dropping in home made cupcakes.

🚑 Remote Emergency Care Workshop comes to Emerald! 🚑

On the weekend CRANA came to Emerald and delivered a two-day Remote Emergency Care (REC) course, utilising JCU’s teaching facilities and skills lab.

The workshop provided rural nurses with practical skills and knowledge to manage emergency situations in remote and rural settings. Some of the skills covered included:

🏍️ Roadside motorbike helmet removal while maintaining C-spine precautions with a suspected fracture
🦵 Splinting fractured legs
🔥 Burns management
👶 Assessment of the paediatric patient

We were thrilled to welcome 20 rural nurses from across Australia, with participants travelling from Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland to attend the course in Emerald! 🌏

It was also fantastic to see many participants take the opportunity to explore Emerald’s restaurants, coffee shops and local tourist spots during their visit. ☕️🍽️

A great example of rural education and training bringing people from across the country to our region! 💙
