June is Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) awareness month 🧡
POP occurs when an organ in your pelvis (your uterus, bladder or bowel) move downward into/out of the va**na instead of sitting higher, in their optimal position. The descent of pelvic organs can result from weak, over-stretched or damaged ligaments, connective tissue and/or pelvic floor muscles.
Some symptoms to look out for...
🔸 Pain or reduced sensation with in*******se
🔸 Feeling of heaviness, bulge or dragging in the va**na or re**um
🔸 Incontinence of your bladder or bowel
🔸 Urinary retention, incomplete emptying or UTI’s
🔸 Straining when opening bowels or the need for digitation
🔸 Symptoms may be worse with physical activity such as running, jumping or lifting
As women’s health physiotherapists, we can assess, diagnose and help provide management options for POP.
If you are experiencing symptoms or suspect you may have POP, please speak with your women’s health physio, specialist or GP.
