We’re excited to share that the Coastal Early Intervention team is continuing to grow, allowing us to support more children, young people and families across the Central Coast.

Please join us in welcoming Annie, our Developmental Educator.

Annie brings a calm, relational and family-centred approach to her work, with a background in primary teaching and experience in disability support. She is passionate about creating safe, supportive environments where children and young people can build confidence, develop practical skills and thrive in everyday life.

With a strengths-based and neuroaffirming approach, Annie supports areas including:

- Social and emotional learning
- Emotional regulation

- Daily living skills
- Transitions and routines
- Inclusion and access across home, school and community
- Building confidence, self-advocacy and meaningful participation

At Coastal Early Intervention, we're committed to building a team that shares our vision of personalised, evidence-based and relationship-driven support. As our team grows, so does our capacity to walk alongside more families and provide the right support, at the right time.

Appointments at Coastal Early Intervention are not tests, pass or fail moments, or places where your child needs to “perform.”

They are opportunities to play, connect, ask questions, celebrate strengths and work together on the things that matter most to your family.

There’s no pressure to have all the answers, no expectation for your child to sit still or get everything “right”, and you don’t need a diagnosis to seek support.

Our appointments are about understanding your child, building confidence and creating personalised pathways that help them thrive.

Meet Emma Campbell 🌿

Emma is an experienced and caring speech pathologist who loves helping children build their communication skills and confidence.

Emma studied at University of Sydney and University of Technology Sydney. She holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Teaching (TESOL), and a Master of Speech Pathology. She is currently completing her Master of Philosophy at the University of Sydney and plans to begin her PhD in 2027.

Emma has worked in the public health system for more than 9 years and continues to work as a Senior Speech Pathologist. She also volunteers as Co-Chair of Speech Pathology Australia ACT/NSW, reflecting her strong commitment to the profession. In addition, she works as a Research Officer at the University of Sydney, helping her stay up to date with the latest research and best practice to support children and families.

Emma has a strong interest in early childhood development. She enjoys helping children with speech sounds, language, stuttering, feeding, literacy and social communication. Emma understands that every child is different, so she works closely with families to create therapy that matches each child’s individual needs.

Her goal is to make therapy fun, practical and supportive while helping children build skills for everyday life.
Emma also offers clinical supervision for speech pathologists and Early Childhood Educator training.

We look forward to more of our families meeting Emma soon!

Not all anxiety in children looks like worry, tears or fear.

Sometimes it looks like:
• A child who suddenly can’t get out of the car at school.
• Frequent stomach aches or headaches before school.
• Meltdowns during the morning routine.
• Extreme exhaustion after school.
• A child who says they “hate school” but can’t explain why.
• Increasing absences or difficulty attending full days.

For many children, school refusal (or what is increasingly being referred to as school can’t) isn’t about being defiant, lazy or unwilling to learn. It’s often a sign that the demands of the school environment have become overwhelming and a child’s nervous system is struggling to cope.

Anxiety can be driven by many factors including social challenges, learning difficulties, sensory sensitivities, academic pressure, changes at home, neurodivergence, or a combination of these experiences.

The most important thing parents can know is that school refusal is not something children simply “grow out of” or can be forced through. Early support, understanding and a collaborative approach between families, schools and professionals can make a significant difference.

We believe in looking beyond the behaviour to understand what a child is communicating through it. When we understand the “why”, we can begin to build the supports that help children feel safe, capable and connected again.
If your child is finding school attendance difficult, you’re not alone and support is available.

You do not need a diagnosis to seek support for your child.

Sometimes families come to us because they’ve noticed:
- Big emotions
- Challenges with communication
- Difficulty with transitions
- Struggles with confidence or social connection
- Sensory sensitivities
- Learning or developmental concerns

And sometimes… it’s simply a feeling that something feels harder than it should.

That’s where early intervention can make a difference.

At Coastal Early Intervention Clinic, our early interventionists work alongside children and families to understand the “why” behind behaviours, challenges and developmental differences — creating personalised pathways that support the whole child.

Through play, connection, evidence-based strategies and family-centred care, we help children build confidence, skills and independence in ways that feel achievable and meaningful for everyday life.

You don’t have to wait until things reach crisis point to ask questions or seek guidance. Early support can simply start with a conversation. 🌿

We know no two children are the same — so their support shouldn’t be either.

That’s why we focus on creating personalised pathways for every child and family who walks through our doors.
Some children may benefit from speech support first. Others may need support with emotional regulation, motor skills, school readiness or confidence in everyday tasks.

For many families, the starting point can feel unclear — and that’s okay.

Our team takes the time to understand your child as a whole person, not just a referral or checklist.

Through our collaborative model, we work together to build a pathway that reflects:
🌿 Your child’s strengths
🌿 Their individual challenges and goals
🌿 Your family’s priorities and capacity
🌿 What support will have the greatest impact right now
🌿 How we can adapt and grow alongside your child over time

Because early intervention isn’t about fitting children into a box.
It’s about creating support that fits your child.

Over the past week, there have been further announcements in the Federal Budget regarding future NDIS reforms and funding changes. Naturally, many families are feeling uncertain — especially with headlines focusing on “cuts” and eligibility changes.

The most important thing to know is this: there are no immediate overnight changes to your child’s supports simply because of these announcements. Many reforms still require legislation, consultation and staged implementation over time.

The Government has confirmed its goal is to slow the growth of NDIS spending while keeping the scheme sustainable long-term. Proposed changes include a greater focus on a child’s functional needs (how they manage everyday life), more consistent planning processes, and the introduction of additional supports outside the NDIS for some younger children.

For families, this means the focus may increasingly shift toward understanding how a child’s needs impact their daily participation at home, school and in the community — including communication, emotional regulation, independence, safety, learning and social connection.

Importantly, the Government has also stated that children currently receiving support will not suddenly lose access while new systems are still being developed.

Right now, the best thing families can do is:
• stay informed
• keep reports and assessments organised
• continue accessing supports
• track real-life challenges and progress
• speak with trusted professionals when needed

While systems may evolve, one thing remains unchanged: early intervention and appropriate support matter.

At Coastal Early Intervention Clinic, our focus continues to be on supporting children and families with evidence-based care, practical guidance and compassionate support — regardless of how systems change around us. 🌿

This National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, we’re recognising the incredible role speech pathology can play in helping children express themselves, build relationships and engage with the world around them.

At Coastal Early Intervention Clinic, we can support children through evidence-based, play-based therapy tailored to their individual strengths and needs.

Speech support can help children with:
• Speech clarity and pronunciation
• Understanding and using language
• Social communication and interaction
• Confidence expressing wants, needs and emotions
• School readiness and literacy foundations

Every child develops differently, and seeking support early isn’t about labels, it’s about giving children the tools they need to thrive.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your child may benefit from support, our team is here to help 🌿

If your child struggles with things like:

🌿 Handwriting
🌿 Keeping up in sport
🌿 Clumsiness or poor balance

…it’s often not just “lack of practice.”

Research shows many children may have underlying motor skill difficulties that impact everyday life.

Exercise Physiology targets this directly.

Studies show structured exercise programs can significantly improve:
✔️ Motor skills and coordination
✔️ Balance and strength
✔️ Cognitive control (planning, focus)

And this flows into real-life outcomes—like better participation at school and more confidence in play.

Exercise Physiologist, Alex, can work with your children on functional movement skills that actually matter day-to-day.

Because confidence starts with capability.
