School Holiday Sessions Available

Sessions are held at Knox Leisure Works 35 Tormore Rd, Boronia VIC 3155
Aquatic OT is a fun and engaging way for young people to develop gross and fine motor skills, improve planning abilities, and support sensory processing. The water environment encourages participation and makes therapy enjoyable, helping kids learn, grow, and build confidence while having fun in the pool.

New families will be contacted to arrange an initial assessment to discuss your child’s needs, water skills, and goals, allowing us to tailor the session.

From Volunteer to Coach-in-Training

Dan Milone is proving that dedication, persistence and the right support can open up exciting opportunities.

As a participant in our SLES program, Dan is now earning a mainstream wage for two shifts each week supporting children in gymnastics classes at Glitz Gymnastics in Lilydale.

Dan began as a volunteer and worked hard to achieve the qualification required for paid employment. Along the way, he has been supported by our SLES team and continues to build his skills with the goal of becoming a qualified gymnastics coach.

This week marked another exciting milestone. Dan's coach has asked him to lead parts of a class independently next week, starting with the warm-up activities and trampoline work. He also confidently demonstrated how to use the iPad for attendance rolls and manage the music during group activities.

Back at the SLES office, Dan even rounded up staff and participants to take part in a mock warm-up session, giving him the chance to practise his coaching skills in front of a group.

It's been fantastic to watch Dan's confidence grow week by week. We are incredibly proud of what he has achieved so far and look forward to seeing where his coaching journey takes him next.

A very BIG thank you to one of our amazing volunteers, Lacey Wastell.

As the Community Service Captain at Caulfield Grammar School in Wheelers Hill, Lacey’s fundraising efforts raised at total of $1807.90 for IOE. This donation will go towards IOE’s Volunteer Program which will be used for volunteer engagement, training and development.

Here’s a reflection from Lacey about her volunteering with IOE:
“My volunteering experience with Interchange Outer East has been incredibly rewarding and has helped me grow both personally and socially. Through the program, I have had the opportunity to support and spend time with young people with disabilities while participating in a range of fun activities. One of my first sessions involved travelling into the city with the group, visiting Dreamskape in Docklands, and then going ice skating at O’Brien Icehouse. The experience allowed me to build connections with both the participants and the other volunteers while creating a positive and inclusive environment for everyone involved.

Volunteering with Interchange Outer East has strengthened many of my skills, including communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem solving. I have learned how important patience, empathy, and encouragement are when supporting others. Throughout each session, I work to make sure everyone feels included, comfortable, and confident participating in activities. I also enjoy helping participants try new experiences and seeing the excitement and happiness these activities bring them.

This experience has also helped me become more independent and confident in myself. Working with a diverse group of people has taught me how to adapt to different situations and communicate effectively with individuals of all abilities and backgrounds. Volunteering has shown me the importance of community involvement and making a positive impact on others, and it has inspired me to continue working in roles that involve supporting and mentoring young people in the future.”

Choo Choo!

Our siblings recently enjoyed a special day out aboard Puffing Billy, taking in the beautiful scenery, sharing laughs, and spending time with others who just “get it”.

At IOE, we know siblings of people with disability play such an important role within their families. These outings give them the chance to relax, connect, make friendships and enjoy experiences that are just for them.

From waving out the carriage windows to sharing snacks and stories along the way, the day was full of smiles, connection and great memories.

Thank you to Freemasons Foundation Victoria and Freemasons Monash Gully for your continued support to make these events happen.
