Just because the pain’s gone, doesn’t mean the work is done.

Anthony’s left shoulder injury from last year feels strong day to day but throw it into footy / fast overhead movements and it can still flare up.

With exercises like these: overhead shoulder extensions, face pull overhead presses, and explosive medball slams, Anthony is able to improve his shoulder stability.

Rehab isn’t just about getting out of pain, it’s about staying out of it.

Your rotator cuff muscles are your shoulders stabilisers. Neglect these muscles and you’re setting yourself up for impingement, instability, or potential injury.

Here’s what the research backed technique looks like:

→ Elbow fixed at 90° and pinned to your side
→ Slow, intentional movement - no swinging
→ Full pain free range of motion without compensation

This isn’t just rehab work. It’s the foundation for any athlete, lifter, and anyone serious about long term joint integrity.

Master the technique. Then progressively overload. If you are experiencing shoulder pain or disfunction, come see us at Perth Active Rehab.

No more guessing. You’ve put in the work and now here’s the data to prove it.

The ActivForce 2 is a handheld dynamometer, basically a pocket sized strength testing device that gives us objective data on your muscle force and range of motion.

It measures muscle strength, peak force, and range of motion in real time, compares left vs right symmetry, and sends a full report straight to an app.

For rehab clients, it means we know when you’re ready to progress, no guessing. For my performance clients, it means programming built around YOUR actual force output, not just bodyweight categories.

Data driven training isn’t just for elite athletes anymore. Book in to test yourself today.

Currently available in Floreat.

Did you know Medicare can help pay for your sessions with us?

If you have a chronic condition (diabetes, heart disease, chronic pain, obesity, mental health, etc.), your GP can refer you for up to 5 subsidised Exercise Physiology sessions per year through a Chronic Condition Management plan.

Most people have no idea this exists and they miss out on sessions that could genuinely change their quality of life.

Here’s all you need to do:
1. Book an appointment with your GP
2. Ask for a Chronic Condition Management plan
3. Get referred to an exercise physiologist (us)
4. Book in and let Medicare help cover the cost

Save this post and share it with someone who needs to know 💪🏼

Strong quads = stronger knees 👊

These are 3 of our go to exercises for improving quad strength, knee stability, and confidence with movement:

✓ Isometric Terminal Leg Extension with Ankle Weights
Sit tall with a roller or towel under the knee, straighten the leg, and hold for as long as tolerated. Increase the difficulty by extending the hold duration or adding ankle weights. A good starting point is 3x 60–90s holds.

✓ Banded Terminal Leg Extension
Attach a band to a sturdy object and place it behind the knee. Start with a slight bend in the knee, then fully straighten the leg by squeezing the quads and hold for 3-5 seconds. Slowly control the movement back to the starting position. To progress the exercise, step further away from the anchor point to increase band tension and/or increase the hold duration.

✓ Isometric Wall Sits
Lean against a wall with the knees bent to approximately 90 degrees and hold the position while keeping weight evenly distributed through both legs. If uncomfortable on the knees, reduce the depth and/or move the feet slightly further away from the wall.

Why isometric exercises?
Isometric holds can provide an analgesic (pain reducing) effect, making them a great option during painful flare ups or early stage rehab while still maintaining muscle strength and tendon loading.

At Perth Active Rehab, we focus on building long-term strength and resilience, not just reducing pain.

EP or Physio 🤔
Do you know the difference?

Most people don’t, and that’s totally okay. Both are university-trained allied health professionals, but they serve different roles in your health journey.

A physiotherapist is your go to for acute injury recovery and pain. An exercise physiologist is your long-term partner, using exercise as medicine to manage chronic conditions, prevent injury, and improve your quality of life.

At Perth Active Rehab, we see Medicare, NDIS, DVA, Workers Comp, Aged Care and private paying clients (private health accepted). Your GP can refer you or you can self-refer directly.

Meet Anthony, the exercise physiologist (EP) behind Perth Active Rehab.

Anthony started Perth Active Rehab because he genuinely believes in what exercise can do for people. Not just physically, but how it changes the way you feel, move and show up in your everyday life.

When he’s not working with clients, you’ll find Anthony out on the footy field, in the gym working on himself, or socialising with friends. Having experienced his fair share of injuries over the years, he knows firsthand the ups and downs that come with loving sport and that’s exactly what makes him so passionate about getting others back to their best.

At Perth Active Rehab, we see clients across a huge range of needs. Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing a chronic condition, or accessing care through NDIS, DVA, Medicare or Workers Comp. If you want to move and feel better, you’re in the right place.

Based at Goodlife Health Clubs Floreat and GymFittie in Jindalee, Anthony and the team are here to help you get started on your health and rehabilitation journey.
