I'm done worrying if people agree with my opinion on this: standard admin support is not enough to protect your allied health practice from an NDIS audit.

Your degree prepared you to be an exceptional clinician. It didn't prepare you to be a compliance officer. When you get bogged down with patient care, the "housekeeping" of business management gets pushed to the wayside.

You hand it off, assuming it's handled. But what standard admin actually misses is exactly what an auditor is trained to find.

When you step back and let someone without specialised training manage your policies and procedures, you become detached from your own business. You lose sight of where things are really at, and that's when costly compliance risks slip through the cracks.

You don't have to do it all yourself, but you do need a team that knows exactly what an NDIS Commission audit looks for.

Big news in the sector this week; the NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 has passed the Senate.

I see practice owners, exhausted from the Sunday night admin spiral, trying to find relief by outsourcing to offshore VAs. I get it. You are trying to buy back your time.

But here is what 20+ years in medical administration and quality auditing has taught me: offshore VAs and NDIS client data should never be in the same sentence.

When an NDIS Commission audit happens, they look closely at how and where sensitive participant data is stored and accessed. Handing that data to an offshore contractor who isn't bound by Australian privacy laws is a massive compliance risk that could cost you your registration.

Trying to save on the hidden costs of admin shouldn't mean risking your entire practice. You need a compliant system that protects your clients and your business.
