🎶 Songs to support early communication & language - Part 2 of 3

🫧 Today’s song: Pop the Bubbles! 🫧

As you sing Pop the Bubbles, try pausing right before each pop and modelling one word: pop!, go!, more - then wait. Your little one might copy the sound, the word, or even just try to make a noise back.

Repeating simple words in exciting moments like this is one of the easiest ways to build early speech sounds and first words.

Is handwriting a battle with your child? ✏️

For a lot of kids, handwriting struggles come down to fine motor skills that just need a little support (and a lot of fun) to build.

That’s where Comic Club comes in!

Over 3 sessions this school holidays, your child will design their own characters, plan out a story, and write + illustrate their very own comic book. All while building handwriting, fine motor, planning, and confidence skills, guided by our OT and Speech team.

No experience needed. Just imagination (and maybe a superhero cape) 🦸🏻🦸🏼‍♀️

Mealtimes can sometimes feel like a battle. 🥞🍴

If your child avoids the fork, refuses the spoon, or can’t quite manage opening their own drink, you’re not doing anything wrong. These are skills, and skills need practice (just not always at the dinner table).

OT Cherlyn shows 3 easy ways to build them through play:
1️⃣ Coloured-strings = fork practice
2️⃣ Coloured-balls = spoon/scooping practice
3️⃣ Twirling toy = opening bottles & drinks

Little steps outside of mealtimes = less pressure on your little one during mealtimes.

It’s National Science Week, and Jacquelyn’s turning it into a kitchen experiment 🧪

Homemade Cloud Dough: 2 cups cornstarch, 1 cup conditioner, a few drops of food colouring. Mix, knead, play!

Kneading gives tactile input and build hand strength. Then the fun begins: beads, scissors, farm animals, all hidden in the cloud ☁️

With Melbourne’s grey skies lately, this is the ultimate rainy-day activity! Tag us if you give it a go!
