This mug made me smile today. ☕
One of my daughters bought it for me from her primary school Mother's Day stall years ago, and all these years later I still use it.
While enjoying a coffee in said mug, I got thinking....
People see a mum cleaning the house all day and taking care of the kids and understand why she's tired.
People see a mum working, running errands, driving kids around and understand why she's tired.
But let's remove the physical exhaustion for a moment and talk about the mental and emotional exhaustion that often goes unseen.
The worrying about your children. Are they ok? Are they having a good day at school? Do they feel safe?
The mental load of remembering everything. Library bags, swimmers, excursions, book week costume etc
Supporting a partner who's struggling with their work, stress or life.
Being the one everyone turns to when they need something.
The friend people call when they need support with their relationship, parenting or life.
Carrying everyone else's emotions while trying to hold yourself together.
The appointments.
The phone calls.
The bills.
The constant thinking ahead.
The things nobody sees.
The emotional weight mums carry is often invisible.
And because nobody can see it...
Many mums convince themselves they shouldn't be tired.
That they should be coping better.
Doing more.
Giving more.
But carrying everyone else is heavy too.
And honestly, as mums, I don't think we give ourselves enough credit for that.
If this resonates, leave a ❤️ below so another mum knows she's not alone.
