"I spent my early career as one of the oncology nurses at Barwon Health's Andrew Love Cancer Centre. Never in my life did I expect I would walk back through those doors - this time as a patient."

Meet Gill Hodgson.
Gill has a strong connection to Barwon Health's Andrew Love Cancer Centre, from working there as a nurse there in her early career, to being a patient receiving treatment, and now, the face of our Andrew Love Cancer Centre Appeal.

Gill is urging the community to help fund 8 new treatment chairs needed for the Day Ward at Andrew Love Cancer Centre.

Chairs which Gill herself is all too familiar with. Chairs that will provide comfort and care for local people facing cancer, close to home.

With each chair costing $9,195.69 any gift - of any size - will help to fund the eight new chairs needed.

Congratulations to two outstanding leaders in our community on their wins at the 2026 Future Geelong Leadership Awards, presented by Geelong Advertiser

We're so proud to celebrate Teresa Hanlon, Founder of Hanlon, who was proud to accept the Corporate Excellence & Enterprise Award on behalf of Hanlon, and Professor Peter Vuillermin - Clinical Director of Research at Health, winner of the Health & Education Champion Award.

Teresa is a valued member of the Barwon Health Foundation’s Barwon Women's & Children's Appeal Committee, bringing her expertise and strong knowledge of the region to the appeal. Professor Vuillermin is a respected Barwon Health paediatrician and researcher whose work continues to shape better health outcomes for children close to home.

Both recognitions reflect the calibre of leadership driving positive change across our region. Congratulations to you both on your well-deserved awards!

The healing power of four paws 🐾

Sometimes, comfort comes with four paws and a wagging tail.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we are proudly funding therapy dog visits for patients at University Hospital Geelong and the McKellar Centre. Bringing companionship, joy and a welcome distraction during some of the hardest days.

Many of these programs are made possible by gifts left to the Foundation in a Will.

Royale for Research. 🌴🍸

Last weekend, 300 guests stepped into Palm Royale at the third annual Forget Me Not - Geelong Ball, an evening of retro glamour and even a little salsa, all in support of dementia research here in our region.

No one does a theme quite like the Forget Me Not Ball, but at the centre of it all is an incredible volunteer committee with a very personal reason for bringing this event to life each year.

Each committee member has experienced the impact of dementia through someone they love, and together they’ve set out to raise $250,000 over four years for dementia research.

They’re already well on their way, with more than $125,000 raised across the first two Balls and the Forget Me Not Geelong Dementia Fund established through Barwon Health Foundation.

Saturday night was another big step towards that goal.

Congratulations to the Forget Me Not Committee on another truly incredible event, and thank you to the sponsors, supporters and 300 guests who continue to back their extraordinary commitment to changing the future of dementia research in our region.

The power of one. 🌻

Taryn "Taz" Elder lights up every room she walks into. This year she faced her toughest challenge yet. A leukemia diagnosis, a gruelling chemo journey, countless hospital stays, yet somehow Taz stayed positive through it all.

While in treatment with Barwon Health's Andrew Love Cancer Centre and Cancer Services teams, Taz raised over $15,000 for Team Love this Dry July, helping the team reach the spot of Australia's #1 Fundraising Team.

"Every donation, every message, every person who rallied behind her lifted her through treatment," says her dad Stephen.
