Trouble with working memory skills? Or are you wondering what that even means? Here are some “red flags” that might result from challenges with working memory as an executive function skill.

📌Trouble writing down info while listening

📌Trouble thinking about something & remembering details

📌Trouble keeping up with a conversation

📌Reading comprehension-it’s hard to remember what you just read

📌Trouble completing a task in a reasonable timeframe

📌Trouble remembering people’s names

Some children aren’t forgetful because they’re careless…
They’re forgetful because their brain is working incredibly hard to hold onto information.

Working memory is like the brain’s “mental sticky note” — helping us keep information in mind long enough to use it.

When working memory is overloaded, children can lose track of instructions, forget what they were doing, or struggle to follow multi-step tasks.

What looks like “not listening”, distraction, or lack of effort is often a child trying to manage more information than their brain can comfortably hold at once.

This is especially common in neurodivergent children, including those with ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, or autism.

When we reduce cognitive load, simplify instructions, and offer gentle support, children are far more able to succeed.

Because behind the frustration is often a child trying much harder than anyone realises.

From therapy sessions, to illustrations to a puzzle that everyone can use at home.

Building a healthy self-esteem is an ongoing process. We need to learn how to "fill" our bucket, but also "fix" the holes when damage has been done.

This puzzle comes with a bucket image with colour coded prompts to "fill your Bucket"

Good things around me ....

I am good at ....

Good things about me ....

Then prompts to "fix your bucket"

I can ....

I enjoy ....

Think I ....

The puzzle comes with 42 disks that the child can use to either "fill their bucket" or "fix their bucket".

The child chooses the prompt statement and then chooses the colour coded disks to either fill or fix their buckets.

What Kids Wish Their Parents Knew ❤️

Sometimes, what seems like attitude is really just big feelings. Here’s what kids wish they could say:

🗣️ When I say “no,” I’m not trying to be disrespectful—I’m just learning to have my own opinions.
😞 Punishment doesn’t teach me, it just makes me sad. I need guidance, not fear.
⏳ I don’t just want things from you—I want time with you.
❤️ Even when I’m angry, I still love you.

Parenting is hard, and being a kid is too. Let’s listen to each other more. 💛
