A Darwin family almost signed a service agreement on the same day they met a provider. They felt rushed. They thought saying "I need more time" might cost them the spot.

It wouldn't have. And it doesn't for you either.

You are allowed to take a few days. You are allowed to ask for the quote in writing. You are allowed to speak to another provider before you commit. None of that is rude, and none of it puts your plan at risk.

If you're sitting across from a provider right now and something feels off, here are five things you can say out loud:

"Can I have a few days to review this service agreement?"
"I'd like this quote in writing before I decide."
"I want to speak to another provider before committing."
"Can you explain your cancellation policy before I sign?"
"I need to think about this. I'll get back to you next week."

That Darwin family used questions just like these. The provider couldn't clearly explain their staff qualifications or cultural safety practices, and the family walked away before signing anything. They found a better fit because they slowed down.

A good provider will never pressure you at the door. We'd rather you take the week, ask the hard questions, and choose us (or someone else) with full confidence.

If you want a second set of eyes on a service agreement before you sign, send it our way. We're happy to help you read it. πŸ’œ

You can have a stack of specialist letters diagnosing a condition, but still get rejected by the NDIS.

It is a heartbreaking pattern we see all the time with Sydney families. They spend months collecting medical certificates, only to receive a rejection letter because the paperwork did not explain what their loved one actually struggles to do in daily life.

NDIS planners assess functional impact, which means they look at what a person can and cannot do in daily life. The name of the diagnosis itself matters far less than how it affects daily routines, making meals, or joining in community activities.

When families shift from just proving a diagnosis to documenting how it affects their daily lives, everything changes. Sharing what happens on a bad day, how long tasks take, and where support is needed turns a vague application into a compelling story.

At The Well Team, we want to make sure you have the clarity and support you deserve. If you are preparing an application or navigating support coordination in Sydney, our team is here to help you guide the way. Let's make the process simpler, together!

πŸ“‹ The specific words you use during your NDIS planning meeting have a direct impact on the support funding you receive.

Many families expect that listing a medical diagnosis is enough to secure support. In reality, NDIS planners base their funding decisions on your functional capacity and daily support needs.

To help you prepare, we have put together three concrete language scripts you can use. These are word-for-word examples to help you describe your daily needs, link your support requests to your personal goals, and confidently advocate for the right plan.

Swipe through the slides to read the exact scripts and learn how to show the gap in your current plan ➑

At The Well Team, we believe that preparation makes all the difference. Let's work together to make sure your story is heard and your support is secure.

Many NDIS participants believe they've got 'someone managing their NDIS' when they actually only have half the support they need. One might have a support coordinator helping them find providers and prepare for their plan reviews. The other might have a plan manager paying their invoices. If you don't know both roles exist, you could be missing out on vital support.

At The Well Team, we want to make sure you understand how these two essential roles work together. Put simply, plan management is about your money, while support coordination is about your life. Both are fully funded under different parts of your NDIS plan, meaning you don't have to choose between them.

Your Plan Manager handles the financial admin. They pay your provider invoices, track your NDIS budget, and submit claims to the NDIA. This is perfect if you want to use registered or unregistered providers but don't want the stress of managing the bills yourself.

Your Support Coordinator is there for your life and your goals. They help you understand your plan, connect you with the right local Sydney providers, and make sure your supports are actually working for you. They also help you prepare for plan reviews and navigate any complex situations that come up.

Every participant has the right to clarity and control over their support journey πŸ’ͺ

A support coordinator has access to your entire NDIS plan, including your goals, your funding, and your providers. Yet most people spend more time choosing a mobile phone plan than choosing theirs.

As Sydney-based coordinators who work behind the scenes every day, we know that the right coordinator does not just tick boxes. They are the driving force that helps move your plan forward, coordinating your team while you focus on the direct, at the door support that helps you live your life. But finding a coordinator who truly understands your needs takes more than a quick online search.

We recently spoke with a family who nearly signed with a provider who could not explain their safety practices or staff qualifications. It was a stressful reminder of how important it is to ask the right questions upfront before you commit your funding.

To help you feel completely confident, we suggest asking these four questions before you sign any service agreement:
1. Do they know your plan type? (Ensure they understand your specific NDIS management style.)
2. How often will we meet? (Clarify if they communicate regularly or only during plan reviews.)
3. Who covers you in a crisis? (Ask about backup support if your coordinator is unavailable.)
4. Can I change if needed? (Verify that there are no hidden exit fees if you decide to swap.)

You have the right to absolute clarity and support that works for you. At The Well Team, we want to make sure every Sydney family feels completely confident making the best decision for their future!

Two people with the same diagnosis can receive completely different NDIS plans. Here is why that makes perfect sense.

Think about two people who both experience a broken leg. One heals quickly and walks easily, while the other faces complications and cannot leave their home in Sydney. They share the same diagnosis, but their daily support needs look entirely different.

The NDIS operates on this exact principle. Funding is based on functional capacity, measuring how your condition impacts your daily tasks rather than just the name of the diagnosis.

At The Well Team, we help local Sydney families map out these daily impacts so they can advocate clearly for the care they deserve!

Swipe through our guide to see how the NDIS measures this gap, and learn how to prepare for your next planning meeting.

Two very different roles often create a lot of confusion on NDIS plans. For many families across Sydney, mixing up support workers and support coordinators can lead to unmet expectations and unused funding.

Your support worker is the hands-on professional at your door. They help with daily living, transport, and community access, working directly with you to build your independence.

Your support coordinator operates behind the scenes. They read your plan, connect you with local providers, and help you prepare for NDIS reviews without providing direct physical care.

Swipe through our helpful guide to see how these two essential roles work together to support you. At The Well Team, we believe that when you understand your team, you feel empowered to make the best choices.

Two participants with the exact same diagnosis can receive completely different NDIS funding, such as 15 hours of weekly support versus 32 hours. This difference exists because NDIS funding is built entirely around functional impact rather than the medical label of your diagnosis.

The NDIS eligibility guidelines explicitly state that funding is based on functional impact rather than your diagnosis alone. Planners focus closely on what you can and cannot do in your daily life without support. For example, one participant might manage their morning routine independently, while another needs hands-on assistance for over an hour every single morning. The planning team needs to understand what falls apart in your daily life without active support.

Families who enter planning meetings leading only with a diagnosis label often find their plans underfunded. Our experience shows this clearly. When we helped a participant named Sarah, she was able to double her support hours simply by documenting her daily unmet needs instead of relying solely on her diagnosis label. The most successful plans are built when you describe your hardest days in detail, like what you can't cook, can't lift, or can't access safely.

At The Well Team, we are here to help you navigate this process and prepare for your planning meetings with confidence! We focus on your real story so your funding reflects your actual daily life. Reach out to us today to discuss how we can support you.

One of the most common misunderstandings we encounter is treating support workers and support coordinators as the exact same role.

When we start working with new families in Sydney, we often hear people use these terms interchangeably. They simply want someone who can help. But mixing up these roles means you might accidentally spend the wrong budget or miss out on critical help.

Support workers provide the hands-on, daily care at the door. They help with cooking meals, getting dressed, and accessing the local community. This vital everyday support is funded directly through your Core Supports budget.

Support coordinators work behind the scenes to guide you. We help you navigate the system, find local providers, manage the paperwork, and get the absolute most out of your funded plan. This capacity-building support comes from a separate budget category.

When you understand this distinction upfront, you stop viewing your plan as a single pool of money. Instead, you can direct each specific budget to do exactly what it was designed to do, ensuring you have both daily care and strategic guidance.

At The Well Team, we believe that understanding your plan is the first step toward true independence! If you need help untangling your budgets or want to learn more about how we can support you, please reach out to us today!

Your NDIS plan is not working, but you do not have to wait for your annual review to fix it.

At The Well Team, we often meet participants who feel stuck with funding that does not match their daily lives. Many people do not realize that you can request an unscheduled plan review at any time if your circumstances change.

We have put together three common signs that show it is time to ask for a review now. Whether your living situation has changed, your goals have shifted, or your funding is consistently running out before the end of the month, you have the right to request a change. Remember, unused NDIS funds do not roll over, so getting your plan right is essential.

Swipe through our slides to see if any of these signs sound familiar to you. Our team of local Sydney coordinators is always here to help you prepare your evidence and navigate the review process.

Let's work together to make sure your support matches your life today!
