What is the difference between a bone and a ligament?

Bones are the structures in the body that form the skeleton and provide attachment points for muscles, which help us to move when they contract. Bones are relatively hard and very strong.

Ligaments are soft tissue structures that attach bones to other bones to form joints. They are dense, strong and fibrous and can withstand the large forces placed upon our bodies when we move, to ensure we don’t collapse into a big heap of skin and bone!

Rolled your ankle a few too many times? It’s best to get these things looked at by a professional, because quite often a rolled ankle injury may have also injured some of the ligaments higher up the ankle at the base of the lower leg. This typically occurs when you roll your ankle and twist or pivot at the same time, and is known as a ‘high’ ankle sprain. This injury is a little more complicated and needs to be managed properly from the get-go to ensure a full recovery. If you’ve hurt your ankle and need some help with recovery, please give us a call 5428 3113!

What should I wear to an osteo appointment? We get asked this question A LOT! The simplest answer is loose and comfortable clothing. There is every chance we will ask you to undress (never more than to your underwear) because it is so important that we can see your body at a skin level in order for our diagnosis and treatment to be as accurate and effective as possible.
We provide robes for anyone not comfortable standing in their underwear, and we will always ensure body parts that don’t need to be exposed during treatment are covered with a towel. Your comfort is our number one priority.
We hope this helps !!

Inflammatory arthritis is a term we use to describe a group of conditions where the body attacks its own tissues, leading to joint damage, pain and stiffness.
Examples of inflammatory arthritis include rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and psoriatic arthritis (PA).
These diseases differ significantly from the common ‘osteoarthritis’ (OA) in how the diseases develop and the signs and symptoms associated with them.
If you have a type of inflammatory arthritis and would like some help or advice, please get in touch with us today on 5428 3113

Depression affects over 250 million people worldwide and is a major contributor to disease in people of all ages. However, did you know that depression and pain are closely related?! 😲

Pain can lead to depression, and depression can worsen a person’s pain. It’s a viscous cycle that requires a multi-discipline approach to treat. Osteopaths are great educators when it comes to the body. We will help someone understand their pain and treat their body, alongside any psychological treatment a person may need.

Speak to a doctor, friend or family member if you are struggling with depression. Let’s look after our mental health 🌞

The stomach is an expanded section of your digestive tract where the food you eat is broken down by stomach acids and enzymes. Problems with the stomach can lead to pain felt at the front and top of the abdomen. But did you know that a problematic stomach can also lead to pain in the mid-spine? We can help you to work out where your pain is coming from, and if necessary, refer you on to the correct people so it can be managed quickly and effectively.
