Dr Ginny does not like it when I am publicly enthusiastic about her. So if this post disappears, and I do too, we’ll all know why (please look for me in a shallow bush grave in Macedon).

Some of you may not know about her remarkable mind. When she was a little girl, she was whip-smart, and wandered around the house singing, Heads-Shoulders-Knees-and-Toes in German. Later, her teacher suggested an intelligence test, and she scored in the 98th percentile and joined Mensa, a high-IQ society. She was 10 years old.

Later, she was accepted into a selective-entry high and travelled there for two hours in the morning and at night. Outside of school, she tutored younger students in academics (and rang rings around me). Then, at the end of her chiropractic studies, she earned two degrees, both with high distinction.

Her intellect is matched by emotional and moral goodness. I listen to her at Zest, speaking so kindly to everyone, witty, affirming and generous. But importantly, this is always underpinned by her ongoing intellectual brightness.

Today is very special.

It’s Nina’s first shift with us, and we already know she’s going to bring warmth, kindness, and gentle care to our little community.

Nina has a beautiful way of helping people feel safe, seen, and supported — and we feel very lucky to have her with us for her student hours for her Graduate Diploma of Counselling.

She’s now taking bookings if you’d like to begin your counselling journey together.

Welcome to Zest, Nina.

We don’t have many food rules here.

But loosely, we try to eat 15+ plants a day (even just a taste), 100g+ of protein, and we pay attention to fibre (30g-ish).

Water too - we love it and try to drink enough to make sure our urine stays clear (if your urine is dark, it might mean you're dehydrated).

These are the patterns we move toward.

Added to this, some people’s body systems are negatively impacted by sugar, dairy, gluten, alcohol and caffeine. We are mindful of this, but we admit, we both adore a morning coffee and a glass of wine with friends.

For afternoon grazing yesterday, I had a boiled egg, a cup of chicken-and-vegetable soup, and an apple. They’re good choices for a protein and fibre kick (I wanted to have a kit kat but this wouldn’t be as good).

This is another shout-out to Tiffani's many qualifications. Today marks 12 years since she graduated from her Family Therapy degree.

I think we can all agree that everyone's family is a little bonkers in one way or another. She has a remarkable ability to hold the whole picture: the dynamics, the history and the unspoken bits in between. Tiff's ability to help people un-muddle the mess is phenomenal.

We’re incredibly lucky to have her at Zest. And even luckier for all the families she supports every day.

“Your baby isn’t giving you a hard time, they may be having a hard time.”

For many babies, being placed in a car seat can highlight stress and tension already sitting in their little bodies. The curled position, vibration and inability to move away from discomfort can be a lot for a sensitive nervous system.

Even the most “textbook” birth is a huge physical event for both mum and baby. Then add things like a long labour, fast labour, forceps, vacuum assistance, or prolonged positioning, and it’s understandable that some babies hold onto tension through their spine, neck and body.

As a paediatric chiropractor, every baby I see who struggles in the car seat has some degree of underlying tension or discomfort contributing to it.

Gentle, specific hands-on care may help babies feel more comfortable, settled and relaxed. And make that road-trip a little more bearable!

We’re incredibly pleased to introduce Nina Ramsay, joining us for her student placement in Relationship Counselling from June. Nina will see clients on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, online and in person.

Under the supervision of Tiffani, who brings 32 years of therapy experience, Nina will work with a range of issues: overwhelm, relationship demands, loss and grief, conflict, and other strains.

Nina is offering a person-centred, solution-focused space where people are heard and supported (tea and tissues included, of course).

As a long-time local, Nina has spent many years giving back to the community, including volunteering with vulnerable people and supporting them through difficult times. She is known for her empathy and kindness, and is so lovely that Tiffani and Dr Virginia have nicknamed her "The Miracle."

Fifty-minute appointments are $30, and proceeds support the vital work of the Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA). All people 10+ are welcome.

For bookings, please use the link or message Zest on 0492 952 592.

“Here you go Frida, yum yum” 🥹

11/05/2026

Every milestone builds on the one before it. Before we’re thinking about food, we’re looking at foundations. Things like tummy time, head control, and the ability to bring themselves into a more upright posture. These early movements are what create the postural strength and coordination needed to sit, swallow safely, and explore food with confidence.

So rather than asking “are they 4 or 6 months yet?”, I’m more interested in:
Can they hold their head steadily?
Are they pushing up well in tummy time?
Are they starting to organise their body against gravity?

Because that’s the real groundwork for solids.

Every baby gets there differently. Some fly through tummy time, others find it really challenging. When a baby consistently struggles in that position, it can sometimes reflect underlying tension patterns through the body. If we can gently address and reduce that tension, we often see things start to click: better tolerance of tummy time, improved strength, and a smoother transition into those next developmental steps (including solids).

So if you’re unsure, zoom out a little. Look at the whole picture of their development - not just the calendar.
