🦇🕷️ WHEN YOUR COSTUME TELLS A STORY… 🕷️🦇

💥 This Book Week, we’re loving discovering the meaning behind the characters our young people choose and twins Blade and Harley have certainly brought some superhero energy to U-Change! 📚

🦇 Blade chose Batman
🕷️ Harley chose Spider-Man

Two different superheroes. Two very different personalities. But both characters have something pretty special in common…..

They have big feelings, big personalities and big responsibilities and they learn how to use their strengths in positive ways. 💪🏽🖤🌈

And that’s something we’re seeing every day with these two incredible young boys.

Through our group sessions, Blade and Harley are absolutely crushing their goals! 🌟

They’re learning to:
🫶🏽 Recognise and understand their emotions
🫶🏽 Express their personalities safely
🫶🏽 Build confidence and communication
🫶🏽 Navigate big energy and excitement
🫶🏽 Connect with others
🫶🏽Make choices that help keep themselves and others safe
🫶🏽 Celebrate what makes them uniquely THEM!

Because at U-Change, we don’t want young people to shrink themselves or switch off the amazing parts of who they are. 💜

🧠 We want to help them learn:

“My feelings are okay. My personality is okay. My excitement is okay. I can learn what to DO with it.”

Just like superheroes, the goal isn’t to never feel angry, excited, overwhelmed or frustrated.

It’s learning how to understand your powers…
and use them safely. 🦸‍♂️✨

So this Book Week, we’re celebrating more than Batman and Spider-Man.

We’re celebrating Blade and Harley who are growing, learning, connecting and absolutely smashing their goals one superhero-sized step at a time. 🦇🕷️💥

And honestly……we think the world needs a little more of their superhero energy! ❤️

📚✨ WHEN A COSTUME HAS A STORY… IT BECOMES SO MUCH MORE THAN A COSTUME. ✨📚

One of the things we LOVE about Book Week at U-Change is discovering the meaning behind the characters our young people choose. 💜

Sometimes a costume is about a favourite book.
Sometimes it represents a hero. 🦸
Sometimes it is about humour, imagination, confidence or simply something that makes you feel YOU.

And sometimes… you meet someone who reminds you that being a hero isn’t about how fast you can run, how strong you are or what you can achieve physically. 💙

During his shift at Boyne, Cooper had the incredible opportunity to meet Catman! 😸

Catman has been travelling across Australia on an extraordinary journey, using his adventure to create something much bigger than a physical challenge……human connection. 🫶🏽

His purpose is centred around spreading kindness, positivity, hope and joy, meeting people along the way and reminding us that small moments of connection can make a difference. His journey has also supported children’s health through fundraising. 🌟

For Cooper, that message hit differently. 💜

Because sometimes the most important part of being a “hero” isn’t completing the biggest athletic feat.

It’s showing up.
It’s connecting with people.
It’s choosing kindness.
It’s making someone smile.
It’s seeing another person and letting them know they matter. 🫶🏽

And that is something very close to Cooper’s heart. ❤️

So this Book Week, we’re celebrating more than costumes.

We’re celebrating the stories, values, interests and meanings behind them.

Because you never really know what someone’s costume represents… until you take the time to ask. 🌈📚

Sometimes a costume tells you a story.
Sometimes a character reflects who you are.
And sometimes… a chance encounter with a real-life hero reminds you exactly what matters. 🐱💜

🌱 SOMETHING NEW IS COMING TO U-CHANGE CONSULTING 🫶🏽

🧠 INDEPENDENT LEARNING & LIFE SKILLS LAB IS COMING TO THE UCC HUB SOON!! 🧠

Expressions of Interest are now open.

Not every young person thrives in a traditional classroom. For some young people, distance education, flexible learning or alternative education pathways can provide the opportunity they need. However, learning independently can bring a whole different set of challenges….

❓Where do I start?

❓How do I stay organised?

❓What do I do when I get overwhelmed?

❓How do I ask for help?

❓How do I connect with other young people?

❓How do I become more independent?

This is where U-Change comes in….

We are developing the Independent Learning & Life Skills Lab at the UCC Hub. A supportive space designed to help young people build the functional skills, confidence and independence they need to participate in learning, community and their future.

🧠 THIS IS ABOUT MORE THAN LEARNING.

It’s about building the person behind the learning. The Lab will focus on developing skills such as:

📅 Planning & Organisation:
Building routines, time management, task initiation and executive functioning.

💻 Digital Independence:
Developing confidence and independence when navigating digital environments and technology.

🧘🏽 Emotional Regulation:
Recognising emotions, managing overwhelm, understanding sensory needs and developing strategies for challenging moments.

🤝 Social Connection:
Building communication, confidence, peer relationships and participation.

🌱 Independence:
Developing decision-making, problem-solving, self-advocacy and everyday life skills.

🚀 Future Readiness:
Building transferable skills that can support future education, employment, volunteering and community participation.

💡 WE DON’T WANT TO CREATE DEPENDENCE.

We want to build capability.

✅ The goal isn’t for a young person to have someone sitting beside them forever.

✅ The goal is to gradually develop the skills, confidence and self-advocacy that allow them to say:

“I CAN DO THIS.” 💪🏽

🫶🏽 A PLACE TO BELONG

🧠 A PLACE TO GROW

🚀 A PLACE TO BECOME MORE INDEPENDENT

The UCC Hub will provide a supportive, trauma-informed, neurodivergent-affirming environment where young people can develop their skills alongside others who may have had similar experiences of education and participation.

Young people don’t need to fit the system. Sometimes, we need to create environments that help young people find their way forward.

📣 EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

We are currently seeking Expressions of Interest from families of young people who may benefit from the Independent Learning & Life Skills Lab.

Places will be limited to support a safe, individualised and high-quality environment.

🏉💚THIS IS WHAT BELONGING LOOKS LIKE. 🏉💚

Yesterday, we had the privilege of witnessing something very special.

Scarlett and Michael took to the field with the Capras Community Care All Abilities Team and absolutely showed us what they can do! 🏉🔥

What a day it was!

🔥 SCARLETT SCORED HER FIRST EVER TRY! 🔥

That moment when Scarlett crossed the line and scored, the excitement, the pride, the celebration was EVERYTHING. 🙌🏽💙

💪🏼And then there was MICHAEL, running the field, getting right into the action and working with his teammates to line up a try. The determination, teamwork and sheer joy of being out there was incredible to watch.💪🏼🏈

What made yesterday so special wasn’t just the football. It was watching two people belong. Not watching from the sidelines. Not being included as an afterthought. Actually being part of the team. ❤️

Running onto the field. Having a role. Making plays. Celebrating with teammates. Being cheered on. Having a go and creating memories that will stay with them forever.

This is what genuine inclusion looks like. It means more than opening a door. It means making sure people have a place inside the room or, in this case, on the field. 🏉

It means creating opportunities where every person can discover:

✨ I can do this.
✨ I have something to contribute.
✨ My team needs me.
✨ People believe in me.
✨ I belong here.

At U-Change Consulting, we believe every person deserves opportunities to experience connection, confidence, achievement, friendship and belonging. 🦋🫶🏽

We don’t want people simply accessing their community. We want them to be part of it. We don’t want them simply present. We want them participating and we certainly don’t want anyone defined by what they can’t do.

We want to see what happens when they’re given the opportunity to show us what they CAN do. 💚

Scarlett and Michael, yesterday you gave everyone watching something to celebrate.

Scarlett, your first try! 🏉🔥

Michael, your run down the field and setting up that try! 🏉💪🏽

Two incredible moments. Two very proud people and two beautiful reminders of why opportunity matters. We are incredibly proud of you both. 🫶🏽💚

A huge thank you to the Capras Community Care All Abilities Team for creating a space where ability is celebrated, teamwork matters and every player gets the chance to shine. Because every person deserves to hear their team cheering for them. 🏈🤩

Every person deserves to know:

“I BELONG HERE.” 🏉💙

This is inclusion.
This is belonging.
This is community.
This is why we U-Change. 🫶🏽

03/07/2026

📢 Behaviour is Communication, Not a Reason for Exclusion!

Every day across Australia, students are removed from classrooms through suspension, exclusion, withdrawal rooms and other disciplinary responses.

For some students, particularly those who are neurodivergent, have experienced trauma, disability, adversity or unmet support needs, these responses may remove the behaviour from the classroom for a moment, but they rarely build the skills needed for long term success.

When a young person struggles with reading, we teach literacy.

When a young person struggles with maths, we teach numeracy.

When a young person struggles with emotional regulation, communication, flexibility, problem solving or relationships, they deserve teaching too.

Behaviour is not simply something to manage.

Behaviour is something to understand.

Behind every behaviour is a need, a skill gap, an environmental mismatch, or an attempt to communicate something important.

The question shifts from:

❌ “How do we stop this behaviour?”

to

✅ “What is this young person telling us?”
✅ “What skills need to be taught?”
✅ “What support needs to change?”
✅ “How do we create conditions for success?”

This is the heart of Positive Behaviour Support:

🫶🏽 Preventing problems before they occur.
🫶🏽 Understanding the function and meaning of behaviour.
🫶🏽 Explicitly teaching social, emotional and self regulation skills.
🫶🏽 Building environments where students can participate, belong and succeed.

Schools cannot educate students they exclude.

If we want different outcomes, we need approaches that move beyond punishment and toward understanding, teaching and support.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn the skills they need to thrive, not just in school, but throughout life.
