A gentle reminder this Father’s Day…

Not everyone experiences today in the same way.

For some, it’s joy and celebration. For others, it may bring grief, loss, longing, disappointment, or the pain of a complicated relationship.

Today we make space for all the different experiences of fatherhood:

The dads who show up.
The new dads and dads-to-be.
The stepdads and foster dads.
The single dads doing it alone.
The dads who have lost children.
The dads we have lost.
The dads who have chosen not to have a relationship with their children.
And the women who have had to wear both Mum and Dad hats.

Father’s Day can hold love and pain — sometimes at the same time.

Whatever today brings for you, be gentle with yourself. 💙

WORKING ON OUR WORRIES PROGRAM

Expressions of Interest – Term 4

We’re looking at bringing back our Working on Our Worries 4-week program in Term 4 and are currently seeking expressions of interest.

This small-group program is designed to help children better understand their worries and build practical, age-appropriate strategies they can use when worries start to feel big.

Across the four weeks, we’ll explore:

🧠 What are worries? – Understanding worry and why we all experience it.

💭 What happens in our brain when we worry? – Learning about our brain’s alarm system and why it sometimes reacts even when we are safe.

🫀 What happens in our body when we worry? – Recognising the physical signs and body clues that can tell us worry is showing up.

🧰 What can we do with our worries? – Building a toolbox of practical strategies to help children feel calmer, more confident and better able to manage their worries.

Sessions will include a mix of creative activities, games, discussion and practical strategies in a supportive and relaxed small-group environment.

📅 Proposed dates:
Wednesday 14 October
Wednesday 21 October
Wednesday 28 October
Wednesday 4 November

⏰ Time: 3:30pm – 4:45pm
📍 Hinterland House – Hope & Healing
Ages 7 - 11 years old

If you have a child who experiences worries, overthinking or anxiety and you think they may benefit from joining us, please send me a message to register your expression of interest.

Places will be limited to keep the group small and supportive. 💛

The way people view you.

Sometimes I think about the different characters I play in everybody’s story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m a terrible person in some people's narratives and a Godsend in others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has anything to do with the person I truly am.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The lens that others view you through is coloured by their upbringing, beliefs, and individual experiences.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people see your bright personality as endearing and others see it as annoying.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people think you’re weak and emotional and others feel safe to be themselves around you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people think you’re rude and selfish and others respect the way you stand up for yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people admire the way you take pride in the way you look and others think you’re conceited.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has to do with who you truly are as a person.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What you have to understand is that you have no authority over how people view you so never try to control the way others see you because the only thing that truly matters when the dust settles down at the end of the day is what you genuinely see in yourself.
