April is C-Section Awareness Month ⚡️

This month is incredibly special to me, not just professionally, but personally through every woman I’ve had the privilege of supporting.

As a scar release specialist, I see firsthand that a c-section birth is so much more than “just a scar”.It’s a story. A journey. A moment where strength, vulnerability, and love all meet at once. And yet, so many women are sent home with next to no guidance on how to care for their bodies beyond the surface.

Your body deserves more than that.

C-section recovery is not just about healing skin and “don’t lift anything heavier than your baby”, it’s about reconnecting with your body, restoring function, reducing pain, and feeling like you again. It’s about understanding that numbness, tightness, pulling, or discomfort are common, but not something you have to just “live with.”

I feel incredibly honoured to walk alongside women in this space. To help you:

Why you won’t hear me using the words ‘natural birth’ in clinic 🤍

My goal in having this women’s only space is to ensure that each and every woman that walks into our clinic feels included, acknowledged, cared-for, and considered, and changing the language we use can help to shape this.

As the woman birthing, you get to choose what language you use to describe your birth and your experience. As a practitioner, I also choose the language I use to ensure I make every woman feel seen.

Meet Dom 👋🏻

We are so excited to finally announce that Dom will be joining the team at Her Body Myotherapy and Massage as an experienced Clinical Myotherapist.

Get to know Dominique 👇🏼

🏀 Dom grew up in Canberra and had a very active childhood riding her 3 horses, and playing basketball and netball.

💪🏻 Dom has worked predominantly in sports health, with extensive experience across numerous sports including AFL and rugby league.

👧🏼👶🏼 She is a Mum to two children, and found that since going through the journey of motherhood, she noticed the ways in which her body changed that she was unprepared for. She has since gained an immense passion for women’s health, and how important pre and postnatal care is.

🌱 She decided to become a Myotherapist because she wanted to study something that enabled her to help people whilst also learning about the body in a holistic way.

🌳🏋🏼‍♀️ In her spare time, she is kept busy with her two young children, loves going to the gym, listening to music, and loves to be outside in nature amongst the trees and birds.

Dom will be in the clinic every Monday and Wednesday, offering both Clinical Myotherapy and remedial massage services, including pregnancy and postpartum treatment.

Answering your FAQ’s: What is the difference between dry needling and acupuncture?

This is a question I get ALOT in the clinic!

Even though both use very fine needles, dry needling and acupuncture are very different treatments with different goals.

🌿 Acupuncture comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine. It focuses on balancing the body’s energy (Qi) through meridian pathways and is often used to support general wellbeing and internal health.

💪🏻 Dry needling is a modern, evidence-based technique used by trained musculoskeletal practitioners (like us Clinical Myotherapists). It works directly on tight muscles, trigger points, and irritated tissue that may be contributing to pain or restricted movement.

Dry needling aims to:

✨ release muscle tension
✨ calm irritated nerves
✨ improve circulation
✨ reduce pain
✨ restore movement

In clinic, we provide dry needling therapy
as part of a comprehensive Myotherapy session, alongside hands-on manual therapy, movement advice, and home management advice to address the root cause of your symptoms.

Why you should start thinking about adding prenatal massage and Myotherapy to your pregnancy care 🤰🏽

During pregnancy, your body goes through a lot of change, and with it, can bring a range of related aches and pains. These can include:

Using a specialised full-body pregnancy cushion, you are able to safely and comfortably lie face down during your treatment - it is as amazing as it sounds!

👉🏻 Supports your core and pelvic floor recovery.

- After a belly birth or abdominal surgery, the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor are weakened. Belly breathing gently reactivates the diaphragm and deep core muscles without straining your incision site.

- It helps coordinate the diaphragm with the pelvic floor, which is key for regaining strength and function.

👉🏻 Improves circulation and healing.

- Deep breathing increases oxygen flow in the blood, which supports tissue repair.

- It also encourages lymphatic drainage, helping reduce swelling around the incision and lower body.

👉🏻 Helps to improve mobility of the belly tissue

- Shallow breathing is common after abdominal surgery because people subconsciously “guard” the incision site. By encouraging belly breathing, it helps to increase the mobility and movement of the scar tissue.

👉🏻 Manages pain and tension.

- Gentle diaphragmatic breathing can decrease tension in the abdominal wall, making movement less painful.

- It activates the body’s relaxation response, lowering stress hormones and making pain easier to manage.

👉🏻 Restores functional movement patterns.

- Your diaphragm is the foundation of core stability. Without retraining it, people can compensate with shallow chest breathing, which affects posture and overall core function.

- Rebuilding this pattern early makes later exercises (like core strengthening or return to normal activity) more effective.
