⚖️ NDIS REFORMS ARE NOW LAW — BUT NOTHING CHANGES OVERNIGHT

The new NDIS legislation will introduce changes gradually over the coming months and years.

For now, participants should continue using their current plans and accessing their approved supports as usual.

📅 Key dates:

🔹 October 2026 — Some support budgets will begin changing progressively as plans are renewed or reassessed.

🔹 December 2026 — A 90-day claiming timeframe will begin.

🔹 February 2027 — The new plan-renewal process will commence.

We understand that changes to the NDIS can feel confusing and concerning. Our team is here to explain what the reforms may mean for you, help monitor your plan and ensure you feel supported throughout the process.

National Report Card 2025: how is Australia’s mental health system performing?

🧠 Australia’s mental health system is doing more but too many people are still being left behind.

The National Mental Health Commission has released its National Report Card 2025. While investment and service use have increased, the report highlights some serious ongoing concerns:

• Access to support remains unequal and often depends on where a person lives and their individual circumstances.
• Cost continues to prevent people from receiving care.
• Mental health services remain fragmented and difficult to navigate.
• Workforce shortages are expected to continue.
• People living with mental health conditions experience higher levels of loneliness, discrimination and financial stress.
• Significant data gaps mean we still do not clearly understand whether services are improving people’s lives.

As Support Coordinators, we regularly see how these barriers affect people, their families and carers. Increased investment is important, but funding alone is not enough. People need timely, affordable and coordinated support that is designed around their individual needs.

Meaningful reform must include people with lived experience and their carers. Their voices should be central to creating a stronger, fairer and more effective mental health system.

Everyone deserves access to the right support regardless of where they live or how complex their circumstances may be.

An intellectual disability can affect how a person thinks, learns, communicates, processes information and manages everyday life.

Every person’s experience is different. Some people may require occasional assistance, while others may need ongoing support across many areas of their lives.

An intellectual disability can affect:

✨ Communication and social interaction
✨ Problem-solving and decision-making
✨ Understanding consequences and staying safe
✨ Emotional regulation
✨ Personal care and household tasks
✨ Managing money, appointments and responsibilities
✨ Employment and community participation

Occupational therapists, psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers and other qualified professionals can help people develop practical skills, build confidence and find strategies that make everyday tasks easier.
