Still exhausted after training?”
“It’s probably not your workout.
Most people don’t feel exhausted after training because they’ve trained too hard.
They feel exhausted because how they fuel their bodies post training.
Real energy, in the gym and after it, is built before you ever touch a weight.
Here’s how to stop feeling flat, foggy, or wiped out 👇
Before you Train: Prime the Engine
Your goal isn’t to get full from your food pre training. Think quick carbs + some quality protein.
Enough fuel to train hard but not enough to need a nap between sets.
If you train early or often feel low-energy:
• Banana or berries
• Rice cakes with honey
• Small serve of oats
• Greek yogurt and berries
If fat loss is the goal:
You don’t need to starve, just keep it simple.
During training: Protect performance
If sessions are intense or over 40 minutes:
💧 Water + electrolytes
🧂 Sodium matters more than most people realise
Low sodium = flat pumps, poor focus, early fatigue.
After training: recover, don’t crash
This is where most people fall apart.
Post-workout is all about restoring fuel and recovering.
Prioritise:
• Lean protein (chicken, fish, eggs, whey)
• Carbs that replenish (rice, potatoes, fruit)
• Add fats later, not post training.
Skip this and your nervous system stays fried →
sluggish afternoons, poor sleep, low motivation tomorrow.
Support the nervous system
Training stresses more than muscles, it stresses your brain.
A few things I’ve personally found useful:
👉🏾 Magnesium-based formulas to support relaxation and recovery
👉🏾 Lions Mane Mushroom for focus, resilience, and smooth energy (without caffeine jitters)
I use options from Orbit Nutrition in my own routine because they support digestion, focus, and recovery, helps bridge the gaps I need to get the most out of my training.
The real takeaway
Energy isn’t solely about stimulants.
It’s about:
• Nutrient timing
• Nervous system support
• Taking recovery after you sessions seriously
Do this consistently and training stops draining you, it starts giving energy back.
Build these habits now and head into the new year running on real energy, not empty motivation.
