✨ A Symphony of Flavour Awaits – Elegant & Sensory ✨

Are you ready to treat your senses?

Join us for an exclusive Gourmet Bakery, Patisserie & Gelato Tour created especially for the low-vision community. We’ve done the delicious research for you — hand-selecting Brisbane’s finest buttery croissants, delicate pastries and artisanal creations, finishing with a refreshing gelato stop.

Led by experienced O&M's guides, this fully supported tour celebrates flavour, texture and aroma, showcasing the craftsmanship of local masters and uncovering Brisbane’s hidden gems.

But what truly brings it to life are the experiences along the way…

💬 “It’s a 10, fantastic pastry and great friendly staff.”
💬 “Shop is warm and inviting, fantastic smell on entry.”

We travel together using a mix of public transport and short walks, ensuring a relaxed, stress-free day of discovery. Assistance animals are warmly welcome.

This is more than a tour — it’s a sensory journey through some of Brisbane’s most delightful artisan creations. Come and indulge your senses, connect with others, and discover Brisbane’s finest treats — one delicious stop at a time. 🍰✨

✨ Looking Back on 2025, Stepping Into 2026 ✨

As we say goodbye to 2025 and welcome 2026, it’s a good time to pause and reflect on the year that’s been.

Throughout 2025, here at ieye we’ve been proud to work in collaboration with BAVIA, Gold Coast Airport and Cross River Rail team. Some of our work included an orientation session at the opening of the new Pimpama Train Station, looking at the accessibility features. We’ve also continued to deliver ongoing Orientation and Mobility (O&M) services, both one-to-one, also in small groups and through our outreach work in Rockhampton, Gladstone, and Northern Rivers.

2025 was also about connection. We supported people to come together socially to help reduce isolation. This included a small, self-directed group who wanted to create regular ten-pin bowling opportunities. Our role was to support, encourage and facilitate this initiative.

Our focus has always been on learning and education, while also remembering that having fun and building connections is just as important.

We would like to sincerely thank our clients, colleagues, support workers, and partners who helped make 2025 such a positive year.

Here’s to 2026 and all that it has in store. We look forward to working with you all again.

I would personally like to wish everyone a safe, happy, and fulfilling New Year.

Thanks again

Lisa - Director and founder of ieye low vision service.

Reaching Our Regional Communities

Last week our O&M completed an outreach trip across the Capricorn region, covering 778 km over three days. The journey took us from the Gold Coast to Brisbane, then out to Theodore, Gladstone, Rockhampton, back to Brisbane and home again to the Gold Coast.

The O&M travelled by car, train and airplane to make sure clients in regional and remote areas continue to receive the support they need. These outreach trips are essential to ensure no one misses out on O&M services due to distance.

At ieye, we visit this region three to four times each year. If you live in the Capricorn area and would like to be seen by an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, please get in touch

Inclusive Travel in Action

Facebook Post:
ieye recently held a travel day with the team at the Gold Coast Airport to deliver a familiarisation day designed to build confidence and support future independent airport travel. The team at the Gold Coast Airport has put in a huge effort to create a welcoming and accessible environment, making the travel experience as seamless as possible for all passengers.

Good journey planning is an important part of any trip. The airport now provides an accessible Sensory Map, which can be used to prepare for the terminal layout, key locations and sensory considerations before you travel.

During our visit, we explored several of the airport’s new accessibility features. One standout improvement is the disability access area for baggage collection. This space is marked on the floor with symbols for wheelchairs, wheelie walkers, mobility devices and the sunflower. The blue wheelchair symbol is textured, allowing it to be detected easily with a long cane. After positive feedback, this feature has now been expanded to all three baggage collection points.

Another new initiative is the mobility-friendly drop-off and pick-up zone located in the short-term car park, providing passengers with easier access and smoother transitions in and out of the terminal.

We will continue working with the Gold Coast Airport to provide future information days for our clients.
Well done to the Gold Coast Airport team for your inclusive approach and forward-thinking improvements.

We will be hosting another of these days in 2026, if this is of interest or you know someone who is planning to travel, please get in touch.

Information Sharing
Here’s a helpful tip if you ever want to track a flight’s progress in real time.

📱 All you need to do is text the flight number to someone using an iPhone (or even just enter it in your iMessages). In the example shown, the flight number EK21—which travels from Dubai to Manchester—was simply typed into a message.

✈️ Once sent, the flight number becomes a link. Tapping it brings up a live flight tracker, as seen in the second screenshot:

Departure: Dubai (DXB), Terminal 3

Arrival: Manchester (MAN), Terminal 1

Departure Time: 3:00 AM Gulf Time

Arrival Time: 7:42 AM UK time

Duration: 7 hours 45 minutes

Status: On time

Plus a map showing the current location of the aircraft in flight

This is a great way to check on flight progress if you’re waiting for someone, planning travel, or just curious. Give it a try—it’s surprisingly simple and useful!

Information Sharing
🗺️ Recently we’ve seen the Translink network maps in both black and white! 🖤⚪ Some people are finding the black background easier to read, while others prefer the white — but why the change? 🤔

📍The white map is the current version, while the black map is the new one showing upcoming updates to the network.

🆕 The black map includes:

🚋 The Light Rail (tram) extension that’s under construction to Burleigh
🚆 New train stations in progress at:

Pimpama (due to open in 2025)

Hope Island

Merrimac

🚉 ieye is in regular contact with transport providers and currently working on a number of exciting projects involving transport options and future hubs. More details to come soon! 👀
