It's here. Early bird registration for Aromatica Australia 2027 opens today, 1 September 2026.

This will be the first face-to-face Aromatica Australia conference in over seven years, and the first ever to bring together the Asia-Pacific aromatherapy community under one roof — practitioners, educators, farmers and distillers, side by side.

Early bird pricing is the lowest it will be, and past conferences have shown these places move quickly, especially for a first-in-seven-years, in-person event of this scale.

Deby Atterby has lived with sequential memory loss since childhood. She never sat a written exam in her life - every qualification she holds was completed orally.

Where many would have seen only obstacles, Deby found a way through: she relied on her memory, leaned on the people who believed in her, and kept going. She often describes her life as a kaleidoscope - always turning, always changing pattern, sometimes hard to hold onto, but never without colour.

That same determination is hwat build and entire education pathway for Aromatic Medicine in Australia, and it's the thread running thorugh everything Aromatherapy Today does today.

We think that's a story worth knowing. More next week.

In 2008, Deby Atterby was offered the chance to buy Aromatherapy Today International Journal.

She said yes - even though, as someone who manages a lifelong learning difference, the idea of running a publication brought real fear alongside excitement. She leaned on her team, her determination, and her love of this industry to make it work.

That decision is why the journal still exists today: full colour, digital and print, reaching practitioners across the world, still telling the stories of Australian farmers, distillers and clinicians nearly two decades later.

Hi, I'm Sandra - you'll be seeing a lot more of me in this space, so I thought I'd properly introduce myself.

I began my aromatherapy training while living in the UK, studying at the Shirely Shirley Price Aromatherapy International School. When I moved back to Australia, I kept building on that foundation, while also training in homeopathy alongside it.

That early training shaped everything that followed - a career spent moving between clinical practice, professional advocacy and, eventually, working alongside Deby Atterby to help build what has become Aromatherapy Today Collective.

I'll be sharing more of how that journey unfolded over the coming weeks, If you've got questions about my path, drop them in the comments.

When IAAMA closed and private health fund rebates disappeared, aromatherapists across Australia were left without the professional home they once relied on.

We built the Aromatherapy Today Collective (ATC) to fill that gap - a membership community where aromatherapists and natural therapists can access ongoing education, connect with peers, and get support with the business side of practice, not just the plant science.

For $15/month, members get practitioner-level content, discussion and a genuine sense of professional belonging again - something this industry has been missing for a long time.

If you've felt that gap too, come see what the Collective is about, www.aromatherapytoday.shop

Every brand has a face behind it. Ours is Deby Atterby - and her story starts long before Aromatherapy Today.

As a child, Deby's Grandmother taught her about the scent, beauty and traditional uses of plants. That early fascination never left her, even when life took her down a very different first path - a four year hairdressing apprenticeship at just 14.

What started as a childhood curiosity, became a lifelong devotion to understanding essential oils, herbal medicine and the plants of the Australian bush - a passion she has now spent five decades building into a body of work that supports practitioners worldwide.

Over the next few weeks we're sharing more of Deby's journey. Follow along to meet the woman behind Aromatherapy Today.

Did you know Aromatherapy Today International Journal has been telling the story of this profession since 1995?

Started by Salvatore Battaglia with just three issues, the journal has passed through several caretakers, survived a flood that destroyed decades of back copies, and kept publishing right through COVID - because the aromatherapy and natural therapies community deserves a voice that doesn't disappear when things get hard.

Today the journal reaches over 800 readers around the world, printed in full colour, packed with case studies, Australian native essential oil profiles, safety updates and real practitioner stories.

We're opening up our story over the coming weeks - the journal, the people behind it, and where we're headed next. Follow along, and if you'd like the journal in your own hands, subscribe via the link in the bio, or go to www.aromatherapytoday.shop
