“I don’t think there’s a nurse here who hasn’t cried over a patient.”

For Kelly and Natasha, caring for patients and families isn’t just a job. It’s carrying the weight of the moments nobody sees. The setbacks. The uncertainty. The long days, sleepless nights and difficult conversations.

It’s celebrating the small wins, grieving the hard losses, and showing up again the next day ready to support the families who need them most.

They are just two of the thousands of Gold Coast Health staff who care for our community every day, often carrying those journeys alongside the patients and families they support.

This Scrub Up September, help us raise vital funds to place life-saving equipment, services and resources into the hands of the teams who care for our loved ones when it matters most.

Imagine spending more time in hospital than at home during your first 15 months of life. For little Arlo, that’s been his reality.

Diagnosed with a rare congenital bowel condition shortly after birth, Arlo has already endured more than 40 hospital admissions, major surgery and ongoing treatment.

Behind every one of those admissions has been a team of dedicated health professionals, supported by vital equipment and services that help them provide the best possible care when it matters most.

This September, you can help equip local health teams to care for more patients like Arlo.

Purchase a Heart Token from one of more than 85 participating partners, including Earth Markets and Chempro Chemists, or make a donation online today.

Funds raised through Scrub Up September help place life-saving equipment, critical resources and support directly into the hands of the people caring for our community.

Every Heart Token makes a meaningful difference.
It could help save the life of someone you love. 🧡

Creating precious memories when they matter most 🫶🏼

Thanks to the generosity of Harrison’s Little Wings and our community of supporters, new Comfort Care Trolleys have been donated to Gold Coast University Hospital’s Birthing Suites and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Designed to support families experiencing the loss of a baby through stillbirth or neonatal death, the trolleys provide resources that help create lasting memories and treasured keepsakes during one of life’s most difficult moments.

The trolleys also support midwives and healthcare teams to provide compassionate care, helping families create hand and footprints, collect special mementos, and capture precious moments with their loved one.

Thank you to Harrison’s Little Wings for helping ensure families have access to meaningful support and opportunities to create lasting memories when they need them most. 🧡

A single story can make a world of difference. 🧡

Thanks to the generosity of Runaway Bay Lions Club, families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) now have access to a beautiful collection of books that help create moments of connection during an incredibly challenging time.

Reading to babies, even from their earliest days, can provide comfort, support bonding and encourage early language and cognitive development. For parents navigating a NICU stay, it can also offer a sense of calm and the opportunity to focus on quality time together.

These books are helping families build a meaningful habit they can continue long after they leave hospital.

Thank you, Runaway Bay Lions Club, for helping support our smallest patients and their families. 📖

Marathon weekend, done and dusted! 🏃🧡

A massive congratulations and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who ran and fundraised for Gold Coast Hospital Foundation at this year’s ASICS Gold Coast Marathon. Your support means we continue providing the best possible healthcare when it matters most.

We also want to give a special shout out to our incredible volunteers who staffed the Bag Drop across the weekend, welcoming runners, lending a hand and helping create a fantastic experience for thousands of participants.

The early mornings certainly aren’t easy but each and every one of you brought energy and enthusiasm that helped shape an unforgettable marathon weekend.

Thank you for showing up for our community. Together, we’re helping make a meaningful difference for local patients and their families.

Terry has been battling breast cancer for half her life. Initially diagnosed in her forties, Terry now relies on the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation’s Cancer Patient Transport service every week to help her receive the vital treatments she needs to keep fighting.

“Everyone who relies on this service is incredibly grateful. I genuinely can’t imagine what would happen to people, including me, if this service didn’t exist.”

Terry knows first-hand the impact cancer can have, not just on the patient, but on the family and friends around them, especially when frequent travel for treatment becomes a significant demand.

This National Volunteers Week, we celebrate the incredible community of people who selflessly give their time to support us.

From our dedicated market stall volunteers and the talented people constantly creating handmade goods, to those who step in to support for our events, major fundraisers and corporate initiatives, thank you. Every contribution plays a massive role in the work we do.

Whether it’s a few hours here and there or an ongoing commitment, your generosity helps us continue supporting those in critical need across the Gold Coast.

The work you do does not go unnoticed, and we are all deeply grateful for the enthusiasm and graciousness you bring to our work.

Thank you for being an integral part of our everyday, and a big reason why we can achieve as much as we do. 🧡

We’re incredibly grateful to the Brightwell Trust, a charitable fund administered by the Rotary Club of Mermaid Beach, whose generous donation through the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation has funded a new MESI ABPI machine for the Occupational Therapy Vascular and Lymphoedema outpatient service at Robina Health Precinct.

This machine is fully automated and allows fast and effective measurement to assess a patient for Peripheral Arterial Disease (narrowing of the arteries restricting blood flow.) Many patients experience no symptoms and are therefore unaware they have an issue. This measurement is used as a guide by our therapists for the safe application of compression to the lower limbs.

Gold Coast Health’s Occupational Therapy Vascular and Lymphoedema outpatient’s service has said the MESI ABPI machine has been a game changer, allowing the team to streamline their intervention and most importantly ensures the safety of our patients when applying compression garments.

Donor support like this helps ensure patients receive safe and effective care when and where they need it most. 🧡
