Saturday mornings are about to get a little more colourful.
Sticker Story Club is an 8-week creative group where children can draw, design, make stickers, build their own journals and let their ideas take shape in their own way.

Along the way, there is room for friendships, laughter, problem solving, trying something new and the simple joy of making alongside other children.

Small groups, plenty of creativity, and no need to be “good at art”. Just come curious.

Sticker Story Club will run every Saturday for 8 weeks starting this Saturday the 10th.

Our Sticker Story Club is all about making new friends while creating a junk journal full of memories, stories and shared moments! We did a lot of drawing, peeling, sticking, laughing, and storytelling at our free introductory Sticker Club session on Tuesday.

Our young creatives spent the morning turning their own ideas into stickers, then finding all sorts of ways to bring them to life on the page.

Colour was everywhere, with plenty of chatter across the table, proud little reveals, shared ideas, and that lovely kind of creative mess that tells you everyone has been completely absorbed in what they’re making.

Sticker Club is really about more than stickers. It’s about having a place for your ideas, your humour, your imagination and your own way of seeing things.

And judging by these photos, there was plenty of that in the studio. Sticker Club officially begins on October 10th. DM to inquire or register your child for 10 weeks of building creativity, fun and friendships!

Along a riverside walking path, there was once a tree covered in dummies.
Parents often walked there with babies in prams, and inevitably a dummy would sometimes be dropped, thrown out or left beside the path.
At some point, someone picked one up and placed it on the tree.
Perhaps they hoped the family might double back and find it.
Then someone else did the same.
And someone else.
Over time, the tree became covered with them. Perhaps fifty or sixty dummies, clips and little chains hanging from the branches.
I was always curious about the intention behind each one.
Was it simply an act of kindness?
A practical way to keep the path free of litter?
A hope that someone might return and recognise what had been lost?
Or had the tree eventually taken on a life of its own?
Perhaps some families returned deliberately when a child had outgrown their dummy.
Maybe they told the child it was being left for the babies of the fairies.
A gentle way of marking a transition.
A practical object becoming part of a story.
A way of letting go that still held a little magic.
I never knew which explanation was true.
Perhaps several of them were.
And maybe that was what made the tree so compelling.
It held lost things, kind intentions, practical choices and imagined rituals all at once.
Sometimes a place begins with one simple act. Then people add their own meaning. Before long, it belongs to the imagination of a whole community.

Sticker Story Club is coming to Vlinder!

Does your child love drawing, stickers, notebooks and turning little ideas into something of their own?

These school holidays, we’re inviting 10 young creatives aged 7–12 into the Vlinder studio for a free two-hour Sticker Story Club Workshop.

They’ll draw and create their own stickers, then bring them together with colourful papers, words, sketches and collected scraps to start a playful journal filled with their ideas and stories.

Draw it. Peel it. Tell your story.

Sometimes it isn’t the picture I notice first.
Sometimes it is the sound.
The other day, I noticed the sound of a Sharpie moving across the page.
Firm.
Rhythmic.
Almost hypnotic.
There was the mark on the page.
And there was also the pressure.
The repetition.
The force.
The way the sound became part of the process.
In expressive arts therapy, we don’t only witness what is created.
We also notice how the creating happens.
The pace.
The movement.
The pause before choosing a colour.
The way someone presses hard.
The way a hand softens.
The way a sound fills the room for a while.
These small details are not interruptions to the work.
They are part of the work.
We don’t need to rush to interpret them.
We can simply notice.
Stay curious.
Let the process speak in more than one language.
A line can have a sound.
A mark can have a rhythm.
A page can hold more than an image.

When I was little, I loved collecting shells.
 
But I was particular.
 
I was not always looking for the prettiest shell.
 
Or the brightest shell.
 
Or the most unusual shell.
 
I wanted a whole one.
 
If a shell had a piece missing, I often felt sad.
 
I could not have explained why at the time.
 
I just knew something in me noticed.
 
Looking back, I think this matters.
 
Children often notice things long before they have language for what those things mean.
 
A texture.
 
A shape.
 
A broken edge.
 
A colour.
 
A feeling in their body.
 
A tiny detail everyone else walks past.
 
In expressive arts therapy, we do not need to rush those noticings into explanations.
 
We do not have to ask,
 
“What does that mean?”
 
too quickly.
 
Sometimes it is enough to say,
 
“I noticed you chose that one.”
 
Or,
 
“You paused there.”
 
Or,
 
“That part seemed important to you.”
 
The meaning may come later.
 
Or it may stay wordless for a while.
 
That does not make it less real.
 
Sometimes the noticing is the beginning.

A creative participant first came to visual journalling in the studio.

Same table. Same materials. Same gentle rhythm of arriving, creating and reflecting together.

Then life changed. They returned home to Ireland. The distance became enormous. But the connection did not end.

They continued to join us by Zoom.
From another country. Another time zone. Another room.

Still gathering. Still creating. Still connected.

I have never forgotten that. Because it reminded me that belonging is not always about being in the same physical space.

Sometimes belonging is carried through rhythm. Through relationship. Through returning. Through the shared practice of making something and being witnessed gently.

The creative practice kept travelling too. In their own way.
In their own time.
Creativity continued to be one of the ways they cared for themselves while living with chronic illness.

At Vlinder, creativity is not a performance. It is not about being “good at art.”

Sometimes creativity becomes a companion. And sometimes connection finds a way to keep travelling with us, even after the place has changed.
