Jan is our first point of contact for those reaching out. We asked her about her role here.

'My most memorable moment was from a lady that I showed through. When her mum was allocated a bed, she hugged me. Oh, she absolutely hugged me. When her mum passed away, I saw her in the car park. I was just pulling into work and she just stopped packing the car and just ran to me and gave me the biggest hug. Yes that has stuck with me.

'My favourite part about working here is supporting people as they come in. I like showing people through and supporting them while they're here. And I do get a lot of hugs from people.'

Michael currently works at Hopewell Hospice and is a third year nursing student at Southern Cross University. We spent time with him recently to find our more about what its like working in palliative care.

What's your favourite thing about working at Hopewell Hospice?
The ability to provide people with the care, respect and dignity they deserve when they're in their last moments of life.

What does your day entail?
Checking in on patients and making sure all of their needs are met, helping other staff members out if they need any help and performing any duties that need doing to help the place run smoothly.

It takes a special kind of person to work in hospice care and we can see Michael fits the bill perfectly.
