Joint inflammation isn't just a sign of "getting older."
Ask the question: What's driving the inflammation in the first place?
It's important to consider whether there's an underlying factor keeping the immune system activated. One possible contributor is gluten - but not only in people with coeliac disease.
In some individuals with gluten-related disorders or non-coeliac gluten sensitivity, gluten has been associated with increased intestinal permeability ("leaky gut") and immune activation. These mechanisms may contribute to inflammation that can affect multiple parts of the body, including the joints.
This won't apply to everyone, and joint pain has many possible causes. However, identifying and addressing an underlying trigger may help improve symptoms for some people.
