World Orthoptic Day is celebrated annually on the first Monday in June. It serves as a powerful platform for orthoptists worldwide to:

- Showcase the vital role orthoptists play in global eye health.
- Raise the profile of the orthoptic profession within healthcare and the general public.
- Advocate for the profession and its patients by engaging with governments and policy makers.

This special day symbolizes the unity and solidarity of the international orthoptic community and highlights the work orthoptists do to improve the lives of patients and contribute to the ophthalmic care sector.

Gordon Eye Surgery once again hosted the Optometry Education Event last night at the clinic. Despite the cold damp weather, we had a great turn out of optometrist and doctors, followed by a cosy dinner together nearby. Thank you to everyone who attended and a big thank you to our doctors - Dr Younan, Dr Symes, Dr Sandhu and Dr Parker for presenting. We look forward to seeing new and familiar faces at our next educational event.

Retinoblastoma is a fast growing eye cancer affecting babies and young children. Early diagnosis is vital to save children’s life and sight, but very young children cannot tell parents their sight is changing, and the signs of vision loss in very young children can be subtle.

A white glow in a child’s eye, seen in flash photos or dim light, is the most common early sign of this cancer. Majority of children are diagnosed because a parent sees this sign, but the time delay between first seeing the sign and seeking medical help is often several months or more.

Book an appointment with your family eye health care as soon as possible if you pick up any concerning signs from your child.

Today was Lucy's last day as our Practice Manager here at Gordon Eye Surgery and Lane Cove Eye Surgery. Her dedication, enthusiasm, and positive spirit have been truly inspiring, and her contributions have made a significant impact during her 16.5 years here with us. While it’s hard to say goodbye, we are excited for all the great opportunities that awaits her. We hope she stays in touch and know that she’ll always have friends here cheering her on. We wish Lucy all the best in her future endeavors!

For those whom weren't able to read her farewell message, we've shared it below:

"Saying goodbye to my GES family tonight I’ve been so touched reading all your messages 😍🤩🫶💔 thank you all so much. GES has been such a special place, and that’s entirely because of the people. I’ve been incredibly lucky to work alongside such a supportive, kind, and hardworking group. You’ve made every challenge easier and every success more meaningful. Thank you for trusting me, supporting me, and for all the laughs along the way. I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I’ll truly miss being part of this team every day. While I’m really excited for this next chapter, it’s definitely bittersweet to say goodbye after so many years. Please know I’ll be cheering you all on from afar. Let’s not make this a goodbye—just a “see you soon.” I’d love to stay in touch for coffees, dinners, and all the things we said we’d do. Thank you again for everything—you’ve all meant more to me than you probably realise." - Lucy ###
