Wondering what happens during a bone density scan?
A bone density scan, often called a DEXA or DXA scan, is a simple, non-invasive test used to measure the strength and density of your bones.
During the scan, you’ll lie on a padded table while the scanner passes over the area being examined commonly the hip and lower spine.
There are no injections, and the scan uses a very low dose of radiation. You simply need to lie still while the images are taken.
The results help your healthcare provider understand your bone health and assess your risk of osteoporosis and fractures.
If you’re concerned about your bone health, talk to the AveNüPlus team about your individual risk factors and whether further assessment may be appropriate.
Bone density scanning is available locally through Maclean Radiology.
