The NDIS is not a luxury. It is not “extra money”. For thousands of Australians, this is survival. At Huda Care, we have seen the reality behind closed doors. We have seen parents completely burnt out from caring responsibilities 24/7 with no break and no support. We have spoken to mothers and fathers who admitted they were having suicidal thoughts because they felt trapped, exhausted and terrified for their child’s future. We have seen participants finally begin to live again after years of isolation once they received the right supports. We have seen non verbal participants slowly build communication skills. We have seen people gain confidence to access the community, attend appointments, build friendships and experience life with dignity. Some participants rely on support workers for medication prompts, meal preparation, behavioural support, personal care and supervision to keep them safe. Some families physically cannot continue without support because the level of care required is around the clock. We have seen situations where if supports were removed, people would end up hospitalised, neglected or worse.Yes, the system needs fixing. Providers doing the wrong thing should be held accountable. But there is a difference between fixing a system and punishing the people who genuinely rely on it to survive. To Australians who have never experienced this world personally, imagine loving your child more than anything but knowing they may need support for the rest of their life. Imagine not being able to leave the house because your child requires constant supervision. Imagine the fear of hearing the support keeping your family afloat could be reduced or taken away. The NDIS, when done properly, is one of the most beautiful systems this country has created. It gives people dignity, independence, safety and hope.Protect the people who need it.Fix the system properly.Every Australian counts. ❤️
