Those that have been with us for a while will understand why its taken me so long to write this post. I have had many calls and messages and the first thing I want to say is Paddy is doing OK, he seriously needs to stop taking free helicopter rides though.

Last week was a big week. We had the most beautiful send off for Pat's Mum on Tuesday surrounded by family.

At 2.46am on Friday morning Lily-Mae entered our World and what an absolute blessing she is. Our gorgeous Keira is courageous, strong with a level of grace that blows me away. Jayden is a beacon of calmness that has this incredible love for both Keira and Lily-Mae. They are a family already highlighting how life giving love is.

Friday afternoon, the universe decided to see how strong our love as a family really is, and I can tell you it's unbreakable. Pat was involved in a car accident on the highway, and he was airlifted to St George Hospital. Does it sound familiar? This brought many emotions up for us as a family, both the 4 of us and our extended families. Pat is in good hands, no surgery is required, but time and patience to heal. He has fractures in C7, sternum, ankle and 7 fractured ribs! He is, without a doubt, resilient. I see the brave face he puts on and the heavy heart he tries to hide. Again, we are blessed that he is here.

Thank you, everyone who has reached out the old "Positive Pants" are back on. Today, I am grateful that Keira, Jayden and Nic have shown a level of compassion, love, care and strength that highlights their ability to adapt to what life throws them. That skill serves them well, and both Pat and I are so proud of them.

I will sign off with a reminder to you all to hug your loved ones ♥️

I am going to be real here, if you’ve spent the last 20 or 30+ years dieting on and off, jumping straight into another calorie deficit isn’t always the best place to start.

Sometimes we need to establish a baseline first.

That might mean spending some time around maintenance calories so we can see what your body weight does when you’re eating consistently while also getting the foundations in place.

Are you eating enough protein? Are you strength training consistently?
Are you moving enough outside the gym? Are you recovering well? Are you actually able to maintain these habits without constantly feeling like you’re on a diet?

For women in midlife, this matters.

We’re not just chasing a smaller number on the scales. If you are doing this 90% of the time, its time to rethink. We want to preserve and build muscle, support our training, recover well and create habits that we can carry into the next few decades.

Yes, fat loss might be the goal. But the fastest route there isn’t always the route that gives you the best result.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is stop rushing the outcome and build a better starting point first.

If you've followed me for a while, you've heard me say these things a hundred times.

Lift weights.
Eat protein at each meal.
Don't fear carbohydrates.
Prioritise your sleep and recovery.
Manage your stress and overall load.
Build habits you can actually maintain.

And I'll keep saying them.

Because after 20+ years in this industry and working with hundreds of women, I've learnt that we don't need to continually search for something new, complicated or extreme.

The basics work.

Especially in midlife.

The challenge is learning to do them consistently enough, for long enough, while adapting them to the body and life you have now. Its about being in it for the long run not just 8, 10 or 12 weeks. It takes time.

So if you're wondering why I sound like a broken record sometimes there's a bloody good reason.

Stop working harder. Start working smarter ❤️

We spend so much time chasing a smaller body that we forget to build a stronger future.

Train for the next 20 years, not just the next 20 weeks ♥️

Beliefs are powerful.

They have the ability to create and, at the same time, the ability to destroy.

The same mind that tells you
"I can get stronger” is also the one that can whisper quietly “I’m too far gone to change" "It's too late, I am older now". Let me remind you, you are never ever too old, my Mum did her first tri-athlon in her late 70's!!!

The thing is, over time, you don’t just think those things, you actually start to live them and act like them. Maybe you say you may have tried many times to change your body composition, and it doesn't work.

Most women I work with aren’t stuck because they don’t know what to do.
They are stuck because of what they believe about themselves.

The good news is that beliefs can be challenged, and absolutely, they can be rebuilt. It takes time and learning methods that support you. Rather than relying on seeing the number drop, what about seeing the small wins that start to prove a different story.

So if a part of you believes things could feel better but you don’t know how to get there?

Reach out.

You don’t have to figure it out on your own.
