Good fertility support is not only about having information. It is about understanding what that information means for you.

Stephanie Mathews is an internationally recognised, award-winning fertility nurse and founder of My Fertility Nurse, an online service helping individuals and couples trying to conceive or navigating IVF feel more informed, supported and confident in their fertility journey.

Through personalised, evidence-based education and coaching, Stephanie helps bridge the space between the GP and fertility clinic — a stage where many people still have questions they would like to talk through with someone who understands fertility care.

Her work can include helping people understand their menstrual cycle and fertile window, make sense of tests or fertility information, prepare for appointments and feel more confident asking questions about their care.

And Stephanie is passionate about challenging some of the overly simple messages we often hear about fertility.

As she shares in her Top Fertility Facts From a Fertility Nurse, there is no single “textbook” fertility journey. Ovulation does not automatically happen on day 14, an AMH result is only one part of a much bigger picture, and fertility is not solely a women’s health conversation.

Her message is not about creating more worry. It is about giving people access to clear, evidence-based information so they can understand their own circumstances and know when it may be helpful to ask for support. Stephanie also emphasises that people do not need to simply sit and wait before seeking more information about their fertility.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Stephanie and My Fertility Nurse to the 2025 Melbourne Fertility Expo, where she not only connected with parents in waiting as an exhibitor, but also delivered her workshop, “Tracking Your Menstrual Cycle: Getting the Timing Right.”

It was a natural extension of what Stephanie does every day — making fertility information easier to understand and giving people a knowledgeable person to turn to when they have questions.

There is real value in having someone who understands not only the fertility process, but the conversations, emotions and decisions that can sit alongside it.

Adele O’Connor is a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, founder of The IVF Support Space, where she supports women and families navigating IVF, donor conception and the wider experience of building a family.

Her approach brings together counselling, psychotherapy, CBT, hypnotherapy and somatic practices, giving people a space to talk openly, make sense of what they are experiencing and find practical ways to feel more grounded and supported.

Adele also brings lived experience of fertility challenges to her work. That combination of professional expertise and personal understanding shapes the thoughtful, compassionate way she supports her clients.

She is also the host of the award-winning Donor Egg Support Conversations podcast, creating important conversations around donor conception, identity, family and the experiences that deserve more space to be talked about openly.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Adele and The IVF Support Space to the 2025 Melbourne Fertility Expo, where she was part of the community of professionals connecting directly with parents in waiting and sharing the support available beyond the clinical side of fertility care.

Because fertility support can take many forms. For some people, one of the most valuable things is simply knowing there is someone qualified, experienced and understanding to talk to.

Some of the most valuable professional connections are the ones that help us support people better.

That’s what AFS Networking is all about.

On Wednesday 23 September, we’re bringing together professionals from across fertility and family building for 90 minutes of conversation, learning and connection.

This month, we’ll be joined by Lucy Lines, Embryologist, who will help us better understand where an embryologist fits within the wider fertility care journey.

Lucy will explore when an independent embryology or cycle review may be helpful, what happens when a client is referred for another set of expert eyes, and how her work can complement the care someone is already receiving.

We’ll also hear from Ella McNamara from Fert & Family in our Member Spotlight, sharing more about her work within surrogacy and family building.

What I love about these sessions is that they give us the chance to go beyond simply knowing someone’s name or job title.

We get to understand:

✨ Who they support
✨ Where their expertise fits
✨ When a referral may be helpful
✨ And how we can work together more meaningfully

Because when we understand one another better, we create stronger referral pathways and, ultimately, better support for the people and families we all care for.

It’s been one of those beautifully full weeks… so this morning, I’m taking five. 🌸

Five minutes to breathe. Five minutes to check in with myself. Five minutes before the busyness of another day begins.

This week has held so many different parts of my life.

Time with my fertility and coaching clients, hearing their stories and being trusted to support them — something I never take for granted.

My massage clients and the privilege of giving someone a little space to stop and reconnect with their body.

The ongoing adventure of supporting my daughter as she learns and grows.

And today, celebrating my husband’s birthday. ❤️

Life can be incredibly busy, but amongst all the appointments, work, family, school, responsibilities and everything else we squeeze into our weeks, I’m reminding myself to notice the good things too.

The conversations. The connections. The people we love. And now that spring is here, those little signs of new life appearing everywhere.

So this is my Friday check-in with you.

How has your week been?

What’s been wonderful? What’s been challenging? And have you managed to find even five minutes just for yourself?

Tell me below. I’d love to hear. xx

When couples start thinking about fertility, so much of the preparation can naturally centre around the woman.

But, as Mike Adams from Bayer reminded us at the Melbourne Fertility Expo, it takes two.

Mike joined us to speak about “It Takes Two! Exploring Male S***m Health”, opening up an important conversation about male fertility, what can affect s***m health, and the positive steps men can take when planning for a family.

Male fertility can sometimes be overlooked until a couple has already been trying to conceive for some time. Yet s***m health is an important part of the overall fertility picture, influenced by factors including general health, lifestyle and underlying medical conditions. It also takes around three months for new s***m to develop, making the preconception period important for men too.

That is where conversations like Mike’s matter.

Alongside education around male fertility, Mike introduced Menevit, part of Bayer’s Elevit family. Menevit is a pre-conception supplement specifically formulated to support healthy s***m, giving men another way to take an active role in preparing for pregnancy.

And that shared approach continues across the Elevit range.

While Menevit focuses on male preconception health, Elevit Pre-conception & Pregnancy has been formulated to help meet the increased nutritional needs of women who are trying to conceive or are pregnant, recognising that preparing for pregnancy can involve both partners looking after their health before conception.

What we especially loved about Mike’s session was the reminder that men deserve to be included in fertility education too, with the knowledge, conversations and support to understand their own reproductive health.

💙 Fertility is a shared journey, and both partners deserve to feel informed, included and supported along the way.

Thank you to Mike Adams and Bayer for helping us keep male fertility firmly in the conversation.

IVF can come with so much advice that it becomes hard to know what actually matters.

In this episode of The Home of Fertility Podcast, I speak with Dr Juanita Jolly, naturopath, acupuncturist and Doctor of Chinese Medicine, and clinical director of Balance Complementary Medicine.

With more than 25 years of experience, Juanita supports both women and men through fertility and IVF, working alongside fertility clinics to help patients build stronger health foundations without adding even more overwhelm.

We talk about why the months leading into IVF can be such an important window, what naturopathic and acupuncture support can actually involve, and how nutrition, carefully selected supplements and realistic lifestyle changes may support egg and s***m health.

Juanita also shares practical insights around male fertility, reducing exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals, managing stress, and why taking more supplements is not always better.

Most importantly, we talk about integrated care, making sure complementary support works alongside your fertility specialist, not separately from them.

If you are preparing for IVF, already in treatment, or simply wondering what else you can do to support your health through the journey, this is a really grounding conversation.

What if fertility nutrition wasn’t about eating “perfectly” but about understanding what your body actually needs?

This Wednesday, we’re shining a light on Pooja Adhyaru, Accredited Practising Dietitian and founder of Powered By Nutrition.

Pooja works at the intersection of nutrition, fertility and reproductive health, supporting people through preconception, natural conception, IVF, IUI, pregnancy and conditions including PCOS, endometriosis and thyroid concerns.

But what stands out about Pooja’s work is that she doesn’t believe fertility nutrition should come from a generic checklist.

Because your body isn’t generic.

Your blood results matter.
Your symptoms matter.
Your fertility treatment matters.
Your culture, lifestyle and relationship with food matter too.

Pooja brings these pieces together to create personalised, evidence-based nutrition support that can actually fit into someone’s life.

And her work goes beyond the consulting room.

Drawing on more than a decade of clinical and leadership experience, her own fertility journey and her South Asian heritage, Pooja is also passionate about making reproductive healthcare more inclusive, more informed and more human.

Because when you’re trying to build a family, you deserve more than another list of things you’re supposedly doing “wrong”.

You deserve information that helps you understand your body, make informed choices and feel supported in the process.

For many parents-in-waiting, PMOS only becomes part of the conversation when pregnancy is taking longer than expected.

That is often when the questions begin.

Why are my cycles irregular?
Am I ovulating?
Why is this taking so long?

Those questions matter.

But PMOS can affect much more than conception alone. It can influence hormonal health, metabolic health, emotional wellbeing, cycles and the way you feel in your body day to day.

So if PMOS is part of your fertility journey, there is another question worth asking:

What does this mean for my whole health?

Because your health matters before pregnancy, during the wait, and long after the fertility conversation begins.

This PMOS Awareness Month, we want to keep the conversation bigger than fertility alone.

You are not just trying to conceive. You are a whole person, and your whole health deserves attention.

Sometimes you need to stop and notice the life you’re actually living. 💛

Today was one of those days.

It started with coffee with another mum, talking about our daughters, friendships and how we can best support them through all the things that come with growing up.

And I had this little moment of realisation.

When you’re deep in a fertility experience, you think so much about having the baby. You don’t necessarily think about the ordinary moments that may come years later. The school days. The friendships. The challenges. The conversations over coffee about how to be the best mum you can be. Including navigating screen time.

Then it was into the AFS Networking Space, connecting with brilliant professionals, learning more about AI and business growth, sharing ideas and continuing to build relationships across the fertility industry. Thank you to everybody that joined and a huge thank you to Nicole Rowan.

And I finished the day recording a podcast conversation with Dr Tash about LGBTQIA+ fertility care and Rainbow Fertility, and the importance of making fertility treatment and support more inclusive for every person and every pathway to family.

Mum. Fertility coach. Connector. Podcaster. Business owner. Friend. Learner.

So many different conversations and people in one day.

And tonight, I’m simply feeling grateful.

Grateful for the people I meet. Grateful for the work I get to do. Grateful for the conversations that matter. And especially grateful for those beautifully ordinary moments that I once couldn’t have known would become part of my life.

Thank you, life. What an amazing day. 💛

When a couple is trying to conceive, so much of the focus can fall on the woman. Her cycle. Her hormones. Her tests. Her next steps.

But fertility is a shared journey, and male fertility deserves just as much attention from the beginning.

Around 1 in 6 couples experience fertility issues, and male factors play a role in a significant number of cases.

Today, we’re highlighting Sapyen, a company helping make semen analysis more accessible, private and convenient for men.

A complete semen analysis looks at important factors such as s***m count, movement and shape, helping provide a clearer picture of male reproductive health.

With Sapyen’s Advanced Home Semen Analysis, men can collect their sample in the privacy of home, send it to the lab and receive personalised clinical results within three days.

It is a simple step, but an important one.

Because understanding male fertility earlier can help couples get clearer answers, make informed decisions and feel like both partners are truly part of the process.

💙 Fertility is a shared journey, and both partners deserve to feel informed, included and supported along the way.
