You don't need a special technique for this to work,
just a slower exhale.

Try in for four, hold for two, out for six.

The longer breath out is what tells your nervous system
it's safe to come down a notch.

Healing doesn't happen all at once. It happens quietly, one small step at a time.

Some days that step is huge.
Some days it's simply getting through the day, and that counts too.

Wherever you are in your healing, you don't have to rush it, and you don't have to do it alone.

If you'd like support along the way, view the online self paced programs.

I was named ACA Counsellor of the Year 2026 by the Australian Counselling Association, and honestly, this belongs to my clients more than it belongs to me.

To the mother in Griffith who let me sit with her through the hardest chapter of her life. To the woman who found her way back to steadier days after years of struggle. To every family who chose healing, gently, one step at a time, even when it would have been easier not to.

Thank you for trusting me with your stories. Fifteen years in, that trust is still the thing I hold most carefully.

This is the whole thing, really.

Not the milestones.
Not the behaviour.
Not whether they're thriving by anyone else's measure.

Just this - I see you. I want you. You are loved exactly as you are.

When a child receives this message, not just in words but in the way you look at them, the way your face lights up when they walk into a room... something settles in their nervous system that no achievement could ever reach.

This is what secure attachment feels like from the inside.

And if you didn't receive this message yourself growing up - you're not alone.
Most of us are learning to give what we never fully got.

That's not a failure. That's the work. And it's the most loving thing you'll ever do.

↓ Does this land for you? I'd love to know in the comments.

Feeling overwhelmed, anxious or a bit "whooshed"?
Here's something you can try right now.

Instead of trying to think your way out of it, drop out of your head and into your body for a minute.

Scan from head to toe.

Where does the feeling actually sit?
Maybe it's a tightness in your chest, a lump in your throat, or a knot in your stomach.

Once you find it, breathe gently into that spot.
Not to push it away, just to keep it company.

Stay there a little longer than feels comfortable.
Notice what comes up, an emotion, an image, a memory, without judging any of it.

Most of the time, the feeling starts to soften once it's actually been felt.

This is a small thing, but it works because your nervous system doesn't need you to solve anything in that moment.

It just needs you to notice it.

A question I get asked a lot.

"Is this for people who've been through serious trauma? Because I don't know if what I experienced was bad enough."

I hear this so often.

And I want to name what's happening in that question.

It's a comparison. A minimisation. A quiet voice that says: other people had it worse, so maybe I don't deserve to take up space with this.

Here's what I know.

Trauma is not about what happened to you.
It's about what happened inside you in response to what happened.

Two people can go through the same event and have completely different nervous system responses.

And neither one of those responses is wrong.
Neither one is more valid.
Neither one deserves healing more than the other.

If you are carrying something that keeps showing up in your life - in your relationships, your body, your reactions - that is enough of a reason to begin.

You don't need to have the right kind of story.
You just need to be ready to look. 🤍
