The 90-Second Myth 🧠
Here’s the truth: We only physiologically feel an emotion for about 90 seconds.
That rush of heat, adrenaline, and cortisol? It literally flushes out of your bloodstream in under two minutes.
So why are we still angry or sad an hour later?
Because we keep hitting "replay."
Every time we relive the conversation, rehearse the comeback, or catastrophize the future, we trigger a fresh 90-second chemical wave. We aren't stuck in the emotion; we are stuck in the loop.
The game-changer? You can't stop the first wave, but you can absolutely stop the second.
Here is your 3-step emergency kit to break the loop:
1️⃣ Observe, don't engage.
Silently label it: "This is anger," not "I am angry." Observing prevents your brain from buying the story.
2️⃣ Interrupt the hardware.
Splash cold water on your face, take 3 explosive exhales, or walk outside. A physical shock resets the nervous system and buys you those 90 seconds to clear the tank.
3️⃣ Change the channel.
Ask: "What is actually happening RIGHT NOW, in this moment?" Not the story in your head—just the physical reality of the present.
You are not a slave to your feelings. You are just addicted to the story.
Break the loop. Take back your peace. ✌️
