Industrial Salmon Farming: Fish pens in Macquarie Harbour release waste and organic matter that decay on the harbor floor.

Oxygen Depletion: This pollution strips dissolved oxygen from the water, suffocating the skates and their eggs.

High Risk of Extinction:
Conservation groups like the Bob Brown Foundation and the Australian Marine Conservation Society warn that a single severe environmental event could wipe out the remaining population.
