Flanno for a Farmer: Make a donation today to support Aussie farmers

17/07/2026

We're wearing a flanno and raising funds for Aussie farmers, because right now, they need our support more than ever.

While conditions are tough, and so are our farmers, just because they can handle a lot, it doesn’t mean they should have to. There’s never an easy day on the land, but Farm Angels helps to make the really tough days a little easier.

Every dollar makes a difference and shows our farmers they’re not alone.

Successful soil improvement is not a one-size-fits-all process.

Instead, it requires choosing amendments that address the specific limiting factors of a given site. For example, in sodic soils where high sodium levels cause dispersion and crusting, a mineral conditioner high in Calcium and Sulphur is necessary to displace the sodium and aggregate the soil particles.

In soils where Phosphorus is present but chemically locked, a broad-spectrum mineral blend can help shift the soil chemistry to make that Phosphorus plant-available.

Basing amendment choices on a professional soil test ensures that inputs are targeted toward correcting specific mineral imbalances rather than applying unnecessary nutrients.

AgSolutions can assist you to design a simple to follow soil management plan to suit the specific requirements of your soil, and subsequently your crops and livestock. Whether you follow conventional or more natural farming practices, our programs are designed to restore soil fertility, helping to maximise yield and productivity.

Determining the health of your soil profile requires a combination of physical field assessments and chemical laboratory analysis. A physical spade test allows a producer to evaluate soil friability (crumbliness), root pe*******on depth, and the presence of macro-fauna like earthworms.

However, to identify hidden hungers, like trace element deficiencies that may not show visual symptoms, comprehensive laboratory testing is essential. This includes measuring the Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) and the balance of Calcium, Magnesium, and Sodium.

Identifying these chemical ratios is the only scientifically sound way to determine which minerals are restricted and which amendments are required to restore balance.

Maintenance of soil health is an ongoing process of renewal.
Continuous farming and high-input synthetic programs can deplete vital minerals and disrupt soil life over time. To maintain optimal conditions, you need:

• Apply broad-spectrum minerals regularly to replace what is exported via harvest.
• Incorporate green manure crops and crop residues to build humus.
• Use silica-based minerals to help buffer soil pH and stimulate soil biology in both acidic and alkaline environments without the CO2 release associated with traditional lime.

Improving soil health requires a holistic approach that goes beyond traditional NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) applications. To enhance soil fertility, management must address three integrated components:

▪ Nutritional: Restoring broad-spectrum minerals and trace elements.
▪ Biological: Stimulating microbe and earthworm activity.
▪ Structural: Improving soil aggregation to enhance aeration and water infiltration.

Scientific research from the University of Queensland indicates that applying mineral-based soil conditioners like NatraMin can improve soil porosity, effectively increasing the soil's "moisture bucket" and supporting long-term productivity.
