Noah shares a little about the way he approaches treatment - from hands-on care to movement, education and helping people better understand what’s going on in their body.

Not everyone comes into clinic with a clear explanation of what they’re feeling.

You might only notice it during certain movements, after a long day, or when something in your routine changes. You might not know when it started, or how to describe it clearly.

That’s completely okay.

Osteopathic care isn’t about expecting you to have all the answers before you arrive. It’s about working with what you are noticing, asking questions, observing how your body is moving, and gradually building a clearer picture.

You don’t need to have it all worked out before you begin.

A moment from inside the treatment room.

Osteopathic care often starts with listening - to your story, your movement, your comfort, and how your body is responding on the day.

Every appointment looks a little different, because every person brings a different body, history and set of needs.

Simple, steady, person-centred care 🌼

Osteopathy has been around since the late 1800s, but one of its central ideas still shapes the way osteopaths practise today: the body works as a connected whole.

That is why an osteopathic appointment may not only focus on the area that feels sore.

Your osteopath may also look at how you move, how different areas are working together, and how your body is adapting to day-to-day demands.

While osteopathy has evolved over time, this whole-body perspective remains an important part of osteopathic care.

At HMC Osteopaths, we aim to take the time to understand the bigger picture, not just the symptom in isolation.

Ever wondered why your osteo might ask to watch you walk?

It is not just about your legs or about judging how you walk. Observing walking can give us useful information about how your body balances, shifts weight, and moves as a whole.

Alongside your history, symptoms, and other assessment findings, it helps us build a broader picture of how your body is adapting during movement 🚶‍➡️

An osteopathic assessment is about more than identifying where something feels sore.

It can involve looking at how you move, where you may be holding tension, how your body has been adapting, and what may be contributing more broadly.

This helps build a clearer picture of what is going on and what approach may be most appropriate for you as an individual.

If you have never been to an osteopath before, it can also help explain why an appointment often involves conversation, observation, movement, and hands-on assessment before treatment begins.

Noah shares three gentle stretches for lower back stiffness. These are simple movements you can do slowly and comfortably, without needing any equipment.

As always, move within a range that feels okay for your body. If something feels sharp, painful, or not quite right, it’s best to stop and check in with your osteopath or health professional.

Small, gentle movement can be a helpful way to reconnect with how your back is feeling today.

Where could a movement snack fit today?

In Noah’s recent video, he spoke about 'movement snacks' - short bursts of movement that can be done throughout the day, without needing a gym, equipment, or a full workout.

It might be 30 seconds, a few minutes, or simply a small change in position after sitting for a while.

📞Walking while you’re on the phone.
🧘 A few squats after sitting.
🚶 Taking the stairs.
⛰️ Choosing the hill.
🧍 Standing between tasks.

Small, frequent moments of movement can be one way to break up long periods of sitting and bring a little more movement into the day.
