For the safe application of compression therapy, a vascular assessment including ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI) measurements are performed. A slight adjustment in hand position.

A different amount of pressure.

A change in patient positioning.

Small refinements can make treatment more effective, more comfortable and more efficient.

Throughout practical sessions, I work alongside students, providing individual feedback to help turn good technique into great clinical practice.

It was lovely to spend the day with colleagues at the OPC Health Compression Workshop yesterday. We got to play with the Mobiderm system - fantastic for those hard to control fibrotic limbs and long term lymphoedema. We also learned another application for 5mm Mobiderm to control oedema on the dorsum of feet. Fun day!

Watching a demonstration isn't simply about copying hand movements.

It's about noticing:

โ€ข communication with the patient
โ€ข clinical reasoning
โ€ข patient positioning
โ€ข therapist ergonomics
โ€ข the little details that make treatment safe and effective.

Often it's these subtle observations that students remember long after the course has finished.
