📢 Important Information for Patients – Changes to Medicare Bulk Billing Requirements from 1 July

Due to upcoming changes to Medicare bulk billing and Assignment of Benefit requirements, Hamilton Medical Group will be implementing new processes from 1 July.

• After every appointment, ALL patients must present to the Accounts Department before leaving the clinic.

• This applies to ALL patients, including those who are bulk billed.

Under Medicare requirements, our practice must obtain and record patient consent before billing Medicare directly on your behalf.

If your doctor chooses to bulk bill your consultation, consent must be provided either:

• At the clinic at the time of your visit; or
• Via an electronic form sent by SMS following a telephone or telehealth consultation.

Please note that from 1 July, we are unable to bulk bill services without your consent. Where a doctor elects to bulk bill your consultation, consent must be completed before a Medicare claim can be submitted. If consent is not completed, an account for the consultation may be issued to you.

For patients receiving an SMS consent form:

• Please read the electronic form carefully.

• Tap Accept to approve the Assignment of Benefit.

• You will have the option to download a copy of the form for your records.

• If you are signing on behalf of another person (such as a child or someone in your care), you will be required to provide your name and details as the parent, guardian, or carer.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement these Medicare mandated changes.

Further information will be provided as it becomes available.

Exhausted but can't switch off? Can't seem to recharge no matter what you do? 😖
Stress and burnout share some symptoms so it's easy to mix them up. But they aren't the same thing and one can lead to the other💔

Stress feels intense and urgent. Burnout feels like complete exhaustion — like you have nothing left to give.

The good news? Catching stress early can help prevent burnout.

Small steps that can help:
- Breathing exercises
- Meditation or grounding techniques
- Staying active
- Listening to music

If stress keeps building, talking to someone you trust, or your doctor can make a real difference 💛

Do you know your diphtheria vaccination status?

With an increase in cases of diphtheria in the NT, it's important that you check if you are due for a booster.

If you're unsure, consult your doctor or check your immunisation record through MyGov.

Speak with your GP or contact the clinic and speak to our Treatment Room nurses on how you can get the vaccine.

Vaccination is the best protection against diphtheria, which is an uncommon infection that can make you very sick.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia, and many skin cancers first appear as a new mole or a change in an existing one.

That’s why it’s important to know what to look for. The ABCDE rule can help you spot changes in moles that may be a sign of skin cancer 🔎

If you notice a new mole, or one that’s changing in size, shape or colour, don’t ignore it. See your doctor, early detection can save lives 👩‍⚕️

High blood pressure is a silent but serious threat. Knowing your numbers can save your life.

Check your blood pressure regularly and track your readings over time. Aim to keep your blood pressure below 140/90 mmHg — and remember: the lower, the better for your heart, brain, and kidneys.

Taking action today protects your health tomorrow.

Know your numbers. Take control. Stay healthy.

The Inside Out crew are holding the clues — don't wait until you're sick to start thinking about your immunity!

Loading up on the right foods is one of the best things you can do to prevent illness before it starts.

Foods rich in Vitamins A, C and D, Zinc and Prebiotics provide nutrients that help protect your immune system, fight off illness and reduce the severity of colds 🍊🥬🥩

Think of it as preparing your body's defences so it's ready to fight when it needs to.

You can find these items frozen or pre-prepared, so they don’t make an outsized impact on your next food shop - and you can make a start on building your immunity from the inside out!

With winter on its way, you might be getting ready for the cooler weather, and for coughs and colds that often come with it, especially for young children.

While respiratory illnesses are common in winter, it can still be hard seeing your child sick. The good news is there are simple things you can do at home to help them feel more comfortable.

Here are some tips:
- Offer small frequent feeds and drinks to help keep your child hydrated
- Make sure they get plenty of rest and extra sleep
- Give your child plenty of cuddles, comfort and reassurance
- If needed, you can give age‑appropriate pain relief, like paracetamol or ibuprofen, to help ease pain or discomfort.

💡 Remember: Sometimes children have one or more viruses at the same time. If your child’s symptoms are severe, getting worse, or not improving, seek medical advice from your doctor.
