As a menopause doctor, I see many women who are bothered, anxious, sleep-deprived, overwhelmed, irritable, screaming, shouting, reacting, regretting, apologising, and then repeating the cycle again. They become trapped in a loop of reaction.

Many tell me, “I don’t recognise myself anymore.”

They are not bad people. They are often exhausted people.

When sleep is poor, hormones are fluctuating, stress is high, and the brain’s threat-detection systems are constantly activated, people can find themselves operating from instinct rather than intention. They react before they reflect. They become caught in a state of dis-ease—a loss of inner peace and balance.

Observing this pattern led me to develop a framework called:

🌸The Nature of The Beast🌸

People reveal their programming through their words, actions, reactions, and habits. Like a wildlife observer, learn to watch rather than react.

When someone behaves in a certain way, they are showing you their current software. You cannot rewrite another adult’s code. You can only learn from what they reveal and choose how you respond.

The greatest freedom comes when you stop trying to control others and start mastering your own reactions.

Observe. Understand. Respond wisely.

Read the software. Respect the code. Master your own.

About This Survey
https://forms.gle/NDofQQE2CYxPZUV38

Thank you for taking part in the Menopause at Work project.

This survey aims to better understand how hormonal changes affect women in the workplace and how employers can better support women’s health, wellbeing, and productivity.

For the purposes of this survey, the term menopause is used as an umbrella term and includes perimenopause, menopause, postmenopause, Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), and other hormone-related symptoms that may affect women before, during, or after menopause. Unless otherwise stated, all references to menopause throughout this survey include these hormonal stages and conditions.

We recognise that hormonal symptoms can affect many aspects of life, including physical health, mental wellbeing, sleep, cognitive function, workplace performance, relationships, confidence, career progression, and overall quality of life.

Your responses will help identify common challenges, workplace barriers, and practical solutions. Findings may be used to inform workplace education, support programs, policy development, future research, and the book Menopause at Work.

Participation is voluntary. You may skip any question you do not wish to answer. Any stories or quotations used in publications will only be used with your permission and will be anonymised unless otherwise agreed.

Thank you for sharing your experience and helping improve support for women in the workplace.

Do you have PMDD or could it actually be PME?

Many women are told they have PMDD, but if hormones or antidepressants only partially help, there may be more going on beneath the surface.

PMDD is a hormone sensitive mood disorder usually starting in the teens, 20s, or 30s.

PME, or Premenstrual Exacerbation, happens when an underlying condition such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, burnout, autism, or trauma related nervous system dysregulation becomes significantly worse before the period due to hormonal sensitivity.

This is especially common in perimenopause when fluctuating estrogen can destabilise dopamine, mood, sleep, emotional regulation, and stress tolerance.

Understanding the difference matters because treatment may need to go beyond hormones alone.
