Well here I am again, after a few years hiatus I’ve joined the pain revolution ride for 2024! This year is close to my heart, as the fundraising and pain education is supporting the communities in western rural Victoria, where I grew up. I’m going to be working hard to train my legs getting ready for approx 700km of cycling starting in Mt Gambier ending in Horsham. I’d love and appreciate your support in contributing, even something small, to help people living with persistent pain in the Wimmera and surrounding rural communities.

“My brain is such a powerful organ and I can change the patterns of my brain to trick my pain”... “now I’m in control, not the pain” ....How fabulous are those words from a woman recovering from persistent pain. It will also be lovely to see one of our Pain Revolution Crew, Trevor on the telly too! Watch with me, Conquering Chronic Pain on SBS Insight tonight, Tuesday 14th at 8.30pm. This is why I do what I do!

Integrating meditation and mindfulness into exposure therapy to reduce anxiety and fear of pain. This is very much in line mindfulness integrated cognitive behavioural therapy. Learning these tools simultaneously can be very effective methods to change ones experience of pain.

A study using mindfulness meditation showed changes over time in neural responses to pain and fear. The researchers found that changes in the hippocampus after mindfulness training were associated with enhanced ability to recall a safety memory, and thus respond in a more adaptive way.
