🍎EPLESLANG🇳🇴
Have you tried Mindfulness, or Epleslang?
~ a most delightful and masterful mindfulness teaching team of Pisces and Virgo North Nodes
Imagine you’re feeling down because someone has wronged you, and your friend says, let’s go for a wander and pick some apples from our neighbours gardens.
The angry toddler in you goes, YES! I shall devour all the apples in the world!
The rebellious adolescent in you goes, YES! I shall feed on the thrill of stealing!
The exhausted grownup in you goes, YES! I shall pay some care to this poor set of skeleton with a gentle walk, some free apples, and time with my friend.
And, you and your friend are in Norway, where summer is turning into autumn, and the abundance of apple trees in the streets are all heavy with ripe, colourful fruits. And where apple picking from your neighbours trees is completely legal, because of the national recognition that the land isn’t owned by anyone but belongs to all people. Norwegians cherish the activity so much that they even have a name for it, Epleslang.
I learned this thanks to lovely friend and co-facilitator Selma in our brilliant 8-week mindfulness group, as we ✨playfully and creatively✨ consider what brings pleasure and mastery in our daily life.
And I thought, isn’t epleslang another manifestation of mindfulness? Under the vast sky, supported by the earth and the people, you and your friend, wandering through many gardens, soaking in the crisp, fragrant air, freely picking and tasting different apples, quietly transmuting sadness, anger, frustration and exhaustion into pleasure, nourishment and mastery - not because we have managed or ever needed to fix ourselves or others through some clever or effortful hacks, but because we are finally learning to let in the deep friendship towards ourselves.
And back over here in this part of the world, spring is in the air. May the seed of Epleslang and Loving Mindfulness grow and flourish in our precious silly human life 🌱✨
