🐾 Fun Fact Friday 🐾

Did you know that dogs can hear sounds at much higher frequencies than humans?

While we usually hear sounds up to 20,000 Hz, dogs can hear much higher pitched sounds. That’s one reason they can detect sounds that we can’t.

🐶 Meet Rosie, my wife Jo’s assistance dog. She might have floppy ears, but don’t let that fool you for a second - she’s always listening.

Rosie reminds us everyday that hearing is an incredible gift and one that’s worth protecting.

Ever wondered how custom hearing protection is made?

Meet Julie from Joolz Dog Grooming !

If you have ever been around professional dog dryers, you know they can be super noisy. Day after day, that noise can take a toll on hearing.

Julie is a fantastic local mobile dog groomer with more than 30 years of experience. She is incredibly gentle and kind with every dog she meets, she genuinely cares for each of them and takes the time to understand each pup’s unique personality.

We recently had the pleasure of fitting Julie with a set of custom made Insta-Molds to help protect her hearing. From start to finish, the appointment took less than an hour.

Many of you have expressed interest in how the molds are made and Julie kindly agreed to let us show you how the process works!

Do your kids love to swim and / or are they at swimming lessons?

Do you need to protect your ears when showering and bathing, as well as swimming?

Do your kids have grommets?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, Hunter Hearing Protection has got you covered! We are a local business servicing the Hunter Region and Newcastle, NSW Australia since 2016. We custom make hearing protection for all ages.

Grommets are small tubes that a doctor places in the ear. They are used for “glue ear” which is a thick build up of fluid in the ear. The grommets (tubes) allow air in and the fluid to drain out and are used to treat repeated ear infections and certain hearing loss in both children and adults.

Last week we met Willow aged 4 years old and pictured below (with the permission of her mum Bianca). Willow recently had grommets put in her ears by her ENT Specialist. Bianca was keen for Willow to resume swimming lessons asap and with permission from the Specialist, she was looking for hearing protection that would help to keep the water out of Willow’s ears.

For her left ear, Willow chose pink and blue multicoloured Insta-Molds and for her right ear, she chose pink and purple. No two ear canals are identical, even on the one person. The different colours help to differentiate each ear, as does the “L” engraving on the left Insta-Mold.

The Insta-Molds were made on the spot with a “tissue to tissue fit” to create a water tight seal to keep her inner ear dry. They are comfortable, a custom fit, class 5 rated and are made from medical grade silicone. This will make them super easy for Bianca to keep clean and hygienic.

The process was very quick and easy with the whole appointment taking less than an hour. The best part was that Willow was able to take them home with her on the day.

Insta-Molds can also be used for a range of activities including sleeping, industry, motorbike riding, concerts, shooting, relaxation and general hearing protection. They are great for kids and adults with Autism.

They can also be paired up with electronics.

Sam is an Operator who works out of the Mount Thorley Mine at Bulga - Upper Hunter Valley. Due to exposure to excessive noise levels during his long shifts at the site, he was in need of top quality hearing protection.

Sam chose to have multicoloured orange and red category 5 rated Insta-Molds custom made to fit his ears.

Photo 1 - Molds were fitted to Sam’s ears and left in place for approximately 5 to 10 minutes, whilst the Mold cured to the shape of his ears.

Photo 2 - is the finished product with cords attached. The cords are useful as many customers choose to hang them around their necks to avoid loss and keeping them together.

Sam’s set of Insta-Molds were made “on the spot”. The whole appointment taking about 45 minutes and the best part was he was able to take them home with him on the day. No waiting weeks to get the finished product.

Protecting your hearing is so important, because once it’s gone…,.it’s gone!

We are a local business with a passion for hearing protection for people of all ages. We primarily service Newcastle and the Hunter Valley NSW and make custom hearing protection for individuals, small business and large scale operations, including the RAAF Base at Williamtown.

Our custom Insta-Molds are used in motor sports, swimming, recreational activities such as reading and listening to music. Utilised by miners, pilots, musicians, kids with grommets, security - the list is endless. They can even be used for sleeping!
