Dental 🦷🐶🐱
Dental disease is one of the most common but overlooked health problems in dogs and cats — and it can be painful, even when they don’t show obvious signs.
Signs:
🐾 Bad breath
🐾 Yellow or brown build up on teeth
🐾 Red or bleeding gums
🐾 Difficulty chewing
🐾 Dropping food
🐾 Less interest in eating
🐾 Drooling
🦷 What can happen if your dog’s dental disease is left untreated?
🐶 Pain and discomfort — sore, inflamed gums and damaged teeth can make eating uncomfortable. Pets may become quieter, irritable or less interested in food without their owners realising their mouth is the cause.
🦷 Tooth loss — advanced dental disease can damage the structures supporting the teeth, leading to tooth root breakages.
🦠 Infection — bacteria can build up around diseased teeth and gums, leading to infection and abscesses locally. Bacteria can also travel around the bloodstream and impact on overall health (eg: endocarditis - infection of the heart valve).
