🐱 FOUND CAT – OWNER SOUGHT

A large cat has been brought into Helena Valley Vet this morning after being accidentally struck by a car.

Unfortunately, the person who brought the cat in did not provide any details about where it was found, other than that it was somewhere nearby.

• Gender: Male, Non-desex, approx between 2-8 years old.
• Large cat
• Not microchipped
• Appears to be an outdoor cat with a recovering cat fight abscess on the right ear.

The cat appears externally okay and stable at this stage, although a full assessment is still being completed.

If you believe this may be your cat, or know who the owner may be, please contact Helena Valley Vet as soon as possible.

If the owner cannot be located by the afternoon, the rangers will be notified.

🐰💉 RABBIT VACCINE NOW IN STOCK! 💉🐰

Did you know that Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) is a highly contagious and often fatal disease that can affect both pet and wild rabbits?

🦠 What is RHDV?
RHDV attacks a rabbit’s internal organs, particularly the liver, and can cause sudden death. Sadly, rabbits may show few or no signs of illness before becoming seriously unwell.

🐇 How does it spread?
The virus can spread through direct contact with infected rabbits, contaminated food, bedding, equipment, and even via insects such as flies, fleas and mosquitoes.

💉 Vaccination helps protect rabbits against specific strains of RHDV.

🏡 Keep your rabbit’s living area clean and practise good hygiene.

🪰 Reduce exposure to flies and other insects.

🎂🐶 HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY… YOU’RE KEEPING YOUR BALLS! 😂🍒
This handsome birthday boy came into the clinic on his 4th birthday for one very important appointment: castration. ✂️

But apparently, he had other plans.

Just as we were getting ready to get the job done… BLACKOUT! ⚡️💡

Then an emergency case came through, and suddenly his big day was put on hold.

And just like that, this clever boy received the best birthday present imaginable — a second chance for his family jewels! 😂🙌

🌾 Grass Seed Season Has Begun!
Grass seed season is officially underway! 🌾🐶

Last week, we removed 3 grass seeds from a dog's ears and another 3 grass seeds from a dog's toe abscess.

Grass seeds can become lodged in your pet’s paws, ears, eyes, nose and skin, where they can cause painful infections and abscesses.

After walks, be sure to give your pet a careful check—especially:

🐾 Around their paws and paw pads

🐾 Between their toes

👂 Inside and around their ears

👀 Around their eyes

🌿 Through their coat and skin

Early detection can help prevent a small grass seed from becoming a much bigger problem. If your dog suddenly starts shaking their head, scratching their ears excessively, or developing painful lumps between their toes or anywhere on their skin, it’s best to have them checked by a veterinarian. 🌾🐶

Grass seeds can migrate beneath the skin, so the sooner they’re found and removed, the better!

Stay grass-seed savvy, pet parents! 🌾🐕💚

🐍 Snake Bite Emergency 🐍

Snake season is here — and unfortunately, snake bites can happen quickly.

At Helena Valley Vet, we’re now stocking snake anti-venom and can perform clotting test to help assess dogs and cats following a suspected snake bite.

⚠️ Think your dog has been bitten by a snake? Every minute matters.

🚗 Put your dog in the car and start heading to the vet immediately. Keep them as calm and still as possible.

📞 Call us — or your nearest emergency veterinary clinic — on the way. This allows us to prepare for your arrival and, where possible, move appointments around so your dog can be assessed as soon as you arrive.

❌ Don’t wait for symptoms to appear.
❌ Don’t let your dog walk around if you can avoid it.
❌ Don’t try to catch or kill the snake.

🐍 If it is safe to do so, take a photo of the snake from a safe distance. Do not approach, catch, or attempt to kill the snake. Your safety comes first.

Signs of snake envenomation can include but not limited to:
🐾 Sudden weakness or collapse
🐾 Wobbliness or difficulty walking
🐾 Vomiting or drooling
🐾 Tremors
🐾 Lethargic
🐾 Bleeding or bruising

Suspect a snake bite? Treat it as an emergency and get veterinary help immediately. 🐍❤️

🎉 2 Months of Helena Valley Vet! 🐾

It’s hard to believe that it has already been 2 months since we first opened our doors and started serving our local community!

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful clients who have taken a chance on our small business and supported us from the very beginning. Your kindness, trust and encouragement mean so much to us. ❤️

I’d also like to take this opportunity to give a massive thank you to my incredible team — Aaliyah, Jannay and Rebekah! 🥰 Thank you all for your hard work, dedication and for always putting your best foot forward. I’m so grateful to have you on this journey with me!

To celebrate our 2-month opening, we headed to Swan Valley for some axe throwing! 🪓 I think it’s safe to say that I should NOT be quitting my day job anytime soon 😂. But most importantly, we all made it back in one piece!

Here’s to many more months of learning, growing and caring for our amazing community and their beloved pets. 🐶🐱💚

🐝 Bee Season Is Here — Keep Your Pets Safe! 🐶🐱

Bees and other stinging insects become more active during the warmer months, and curious pets can easily end up with a painful sting.

⚠️ Signs of an allergic reaction can include:
• Sudden swelling, especially around the face or muzzle
• Hives or itchy skin
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Difficulty breathing
• Weakness, collapse, or excessive drooling

🚨 If your pet has trouble breathing, collapses, or develops significant facial/throat swelling, seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Allergic reactions can become life-threatening very quickly.

If you suspect your pet has been stung, contact your veterinarian for advice—even if they initially seem okay.

🐾 A little awareness can help keep your furry family members safe this bee season!
