I thought I’d come home from Japan with a suitcase full of j-beauty stuff… but what i did bring home was something even more valuable- a different perspective.

Over the past few weeks, Japan has challenged the way I think about beauty and aesthetics. It reminded me that beauty isn’t universal; it’s shaped by culture, history and values.

Thank you, Japan, for the lessons I’ll carry long after the suitcase is unpacked. 🇯🇵🌸

What if beauty wasn’t about having one standout feature? 🇯🇵

Since arriving in Japan, I’ve been fascinated by how differently beauty is perceived.

Keiko Kitagawa is often regarded as one of Japan’s most beautiful women, yet what makes her face so captivating isn’t one dramatic feature—it’s the harmony between them.

As someone who works in aesthetic medicine, this has been one of my biggest takeaways from Japan.

Perhaps beauty isn’t always about making features bigger, sharper or more noticeable.

Perhaps it’s about creating such balance that nothing stands out at all.

Travelling through Japan has reminded me that beauty isn’t universal, it’s shaped by culture, history and values.

From prevention and refinement to confidence and individuality, Japan and Australia each have their own unique approach to aesthetics.

Neither is better. Just beautifully different.

I’ve got some cult-favourite pharmacy finds I’d never seen before, shopping here has been an experience in itself.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll be putting these products to the test and sharing my honest thoughts including what impressed me, what surprised me, and whether they’re worth the hype.

Stay tuned… I have a feeling a few of these are going to become new favourites. ✨

I came to Japan expecting incredible food, beautiful temples and efficient trains.

I didn’t expect to become completely fascinated by the country’s approach to beauty.

From conversations with a maiko in Kyoto to wandering through cosmetic clinics in Tokyo, I’ve found myself constantly asking, “Why do they do it this way?”

It’s been a reminder that beauty isn’t universal, it’s shaped by culture, history and values.

So yes… I really am overanalysing Japan’s approach to aesthetics.

And honestly? I’m loving every minute of it. 🇯🇵🌸

One of the most memorable moments of our time in Kyoto wasn’t visiting a temple or garden—it was sitting with a maiko and asking her a question about beauty.

Her answer reminded me that beauty is never fixed. It’s shaped by culture, history and the values we inherit.

In a world that often encourages us to be bigger, bolder and more noticeable, Kyoto’s traditional ideals celebrate something different: refinement, grace and quiet elegance.

As a Nurse Practitioner in aesthetic medicine, I found that perspective incredibly thought-provoking. It wasn’t about deciding which version of beauty is “right”, it was a reminder that there isn’t just one ideal.

Sometimes the most captivating beauty isn’t the one that shouts the loudest.

It’s the one that whispers.

Before visiting Japan, I thought this was probably an exaggeration.

Now that I’ve experienced it… not really.

The attention to detail is extraordinary. Trains that run with incredible precision. Streets that are remarkably clean. Exceptional food, genuine politeness and a culture that seems to value respect for others in everyday life.

No place is perfect, but Japan has certainly left an impression on me.

I’m already wondering which parts of this culture I can bring home with me. 🇯🇵🌸
