Let's talk about Marshmallow (Althaea officinialis.)

Note: This is NOT Mallow (Malva spp.)

Did you know this was where Marshmallows originally came from? They were traditionally used (and can still be used) to help soothe sore throats and coat the mucous membranes in the throat.

A trial was completed comparing 1% Hydrocortisone Cream and
Althaea officinialis...guess who won? Marshmallow!!!

"A pilot double-blind, active-controlled clinical trial in children with mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis found that a 1% Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) ointment reduced disease severity more effectively than 1% hydrocortisone ointment, as measured by the SCORAD score over a four-week period. Both treatments led to significant improvements, but the marshmallow ointment group showed a greater reduction in severity from baseline and after the first week."

It can also be used to sooth other skin irritations, minor burns, dry skin and more!
