It's normal to feel worried about moving again, returning to sport, or even doing everyday activities. You might wonder, "What if I make it worse?" or "Will I ever get back to where I was?"

These thoughts are common, and you're not alone.

Here are a few ways to manage anxiety during recovery.

Healing is about more than recovering physically - it's about rebuilding confidence in your body, one step at a time.

At MET Phys, our team works together to support both your physical recovery and your overall wellbeing, helping you return to the activities that matter most.

The Station isn't just another gym class.

It's a place to show up.

To work hard.

To learn something new.

To have someone encourage you when you need it.

To celebrate when you surprise yourself.

To laugh when things don't go according to plan.

And to walk out thinking:
"I actually did that."

That's what we're building at The Station.
Functional fitness and boxing that challenge you physically, while creating a community that keeps you coming back.

Whether you're already active or haven't stepped into a gym in years, there's a place for you here.

Because fitness doesn't have to be intimidating.
It can be fun.
It can be social.
It can build confidence.
And it can become something you genuinely look forward to.

πŸ”₯ Same ground. New fire.

Why does your knee hurt going downstairs? πŸ¦΅β¬‡οΈ

If walking downstairs makes your knee ache, you're not alone.

Going downstairs places more load through the front of the knee than walking on level ground. Your musclesβ€”especially your quadricepsβ€”need to work hard to control your body as you lower each step.

Pain can develop when:
βœ”οΈ The muscles around your knee and hips aren't as strong as they need to be.
βœ”οΈ The knee joint is irritated or inflamed.
βœ”οΈ The kneecap isn't moving comfortably as the knee bends.
βœ”οΈ Your movement pattern has changed because of a previous injury or ongoing pain.

The good news? In many cases, the right exercise program can help improve strength, movement, and confidence over time.

Simple strengthening exercises, gradual progression, and guidance from a Physiotherapist can make a big difference.

If you're avoiding stairs because of knee pain, it's worth having it assessed. Understanding what's contributing to your symptoms allows us to create a treatment plan that's tailored to you.

Meet Abby. πŸ‘‹ The person behind The Station.

If you're wondering who's going to be getting you moving, challenging you and probably making you laugh along the way...

Abby is a qualified Personal Trainer with Cert III and IV in Fitness, as well as a Certificate IV in Disability.

With experience across personal training, group fitness and disability support, Abby brings a practical, people-first approach to every session.

She's passionate about helping people discover what their bodies can do, and how movement can support both physical and mental wellbeing.

For Abby, exercise isn't just about fitness.

It's about:
πŸ’™ Building confidence
🧠 Supporting mental wellbeing
πŸ’ͺ Discovering your strength
🌱 Feeling better in everyday life
🀝 Finding your community

Her sessions are supportive, fun and challenging in a way that feels achievable, especially for people who don't usually see themselves as "gym people."

And there's a pretty interesting reason she understands the importance of resilience...
Outside the gym, Abby is an Auxiliary Fire and Rescue Firefighter.
Which makes The Station feel like a pretty fitting place for her.

She's also:
πŸ‘©πŸ‘§πŸ‘¦ Mum of five
πŸ• Mum to Fly & Sadie
πŸ•οΈ Outdoor adventure lover
πŸ”₯ Always up for a challenge

Getting older doesn't mean slowing down - it means looking after your body so you can keep doing the things you love.

From around the age of 30, we naturally begin to lose muscle mass and strength. This process speeds up as we age, making everyday activities like climbing stairs, carrying groceries, getting out of a chair, or keeping up with the grandchildren more challenging.

The good news? Strength training can help at any age.

Regular strength training can:
πŸ’ͺ Maintain and build muscle strength
🦴 Support healthy bones and reduce the risk of osteoporosis
βš–οΈ Improve balance and help prevent falls
🚢 Make everyday activities easier and more comfortable
❀️ Support heart health, blood sugar management, and overall wellbeing
😊 Increase confidence and independence

It's never too late to start.

Whether you're new to exercise or returning after a break, an Exercise Physiologist can design a personalised strength program that's safe, effective, and tailored to your goals and abilities.

At MET Phys, we're here to help you stay active, independent, and doing the things you enjoy for years to come.
