Inspired By Pilates

Inspired By Pilates I have been a massage therapist for over 25 years. I then went through to do my sports Massage and injury management certificate in 1995.

It all started in 1994 when i left school and i studied a certificate in Therapeutic Massage, the course only went for 16 weeks. After i finished my study i found work in a Massage Clinic in the City, this was a huge eye opener for me, as i had never worked with such different personalities. It was great though as i gained so much valuable experience. i worked at Brisbane Massage Therapy Center fo

r 5 years. When i left in 2001, i decided to give myself a break from the Massage industry and worked in various differing occupations. However massage was always my passion. i decided to go back and in 2010 and complete my Diploma in Remedial Massage through the Australian Institute of Applied Sciences. I started a Mobile Massage Business, so i could work around my children. in that time i worked in different locations and Clinical settings, I've worked with Acupuncturist, Chiropractors and Physio's. With all the experience i have gained over the years, i have now decided to open my own little clinic. i am very excited to be working in my chosen career, and have the opportunity to share my knowledge with everyone.

Pilates vs Weight Training β€” do you really need both? πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ

As a Pilates instructor, I absolutely love Pilates β€” but I also believe there’s a place for lifting weights, especially as we get older.

Pilates is amazing for core strength, stability, mobility, posture, balance, body awareness and muscular endurance. It teaches you to move with control and intention.

But weight training offers something different.

πŸ‹οΈ Builds more muscle through progressive overload
🦴 Provides greater loading for our bones, which is particularly important as we age
πŸ’ͺ Increases overall strength and the amount of force we can produce
πŸ‘ Allows us to progressively challenge individual muscles with heavier resistance
πŸ”₯ Helps us maintain muscle mass as we get older

And the best part?

You don't have to choose one.

Pilates teaches us to move well.
Strength training helps us be strong.

Together, they make a pretty powerful combination. ❀️

And no β€” lifting weights isn't going to make you "bulky"! Building significant muscle takes a lot of time, consistency and progressive training.

At this stage of life, I want to be strong, capable, mobile and confident in my body β€” and that's why I love incorporating both. πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

I'm so proud of myself β€” I ran 4km today! πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
Running wasn't even part of the plan.

I was going to start with a walk to warm up, then do some strength training. But as I started walking, I suddenly got this burst of energy and decided to run… and I just kept going! πŸ˜„

I used to love running, but after a few niggling knee and hip issues, I eventually stopped. Over the years, weight training, bootcamps, HIIT, Pilates, stretching and mobility have become my preferred ways to train.

But today, I felt good. Really good. So maybe running might make its way back into my weekly training routine… although we'll see how I pull up tomorrow! πŸ˜‚

For today, though, I'm just going to enjoy the achievement and be proud of myself. ❀️
Sometimes it's nice to surprise yourself and realise your body can still do things you thought you'd left behind. πŸ™ŒπŸ½βœ¨

Haha!
Accidents do happen, the first time I attempted a teaser on the reformer I nearly fell off πŸ˜‚
Thankfully for me, in the 11 years of teaching Mat pilates I've only ever had a couple of b***y bands snap and one pilates circles break while teaching πŸ˜…
And in reformer one person recently fell forward into the well of the reformer, then continued laughing at herself throughout the class and now jokes about it every time she comes to class πŸ˜‚
If you fall, you just pick yourself up and keep going πŸ’― πŸ’ͺ🏽

Life is a busy juggle of early mornings, late nights and everything in between. ❀️
I currently instruct 15 Pilates classes a week, along with two private clients and massage clients that I treat from time to time.
My days often start early, include split shifts, and have me on my feet for most of the day β€” all while being a mum to my beautiful special-needs boy.
It’s actually interesting to see just how many steps I clock up on a full day of work! πŸ‘£
And then there’s my β€œday off”… πŸ˜‚
Shopping, cleaning, laundry, running errands, appointments for my son, making time for family and friends, and trying to squeeze in a little time for myself.
Sometimes, simply stopping and resting feels like the hardest thing to fit into the schedule.
I love what I do, and I’m grateful for my work, my family and the people around me. But finding that balance between giving to everyone else and remembering to look after yourself can be tricky.
So today, I’m reminding myself that rest isn’t being lazy. It’s part of the juggle too. ❀️
One day, one class, one step at a time. πŸ‘£βœ¨

Prenatal Pilates provides safe, low-impact conditioning designed to build deep core strength, support joint stability and strengthen the pelvic floor. It can help relieve lower back discomfort, improve posture as your centre of gravity changes, and teach mindful breathing techniques that can be beneficial during labour while also helping to reduce stress and promote relaxation.
