A common type of client I get, and love getting, are the ones with mysterious illnesses. The challenge of finding the potential source of what's triggering the client is one I really enjoy, and one, us as Mould Testing technicians and Building Biologists specialise in.
This client had no visible mould in her home. yet was having health symptoms triggered in certain areas of her home. With testing and a thorough investigation, I was able to uncover water damage and invisible mould growth which others had not found. She is now on her way to living in a healthier space :) and this is why I do what I do!

“I just want to know if it’s black mould in my home”.
This is one of the most common phrases I get from my mould clients. Let me share why it is fundamentally flawed.
For over year now, I’ve been working with people with mould illness, or people with mould and water-damage concerns at their properties. One topic I get asked a lot is around ‘black mould’.
This term has a lot of misconceptions around it, so I decided to write a blog post about it!

Commonly, black mould is referred to as the toxic mycotoxin producing genus of mould, Stachybotrys. Now, it is important to understand there are other mould which can appear black. Take Aspergillus for example, which we previously noted can appear white or green

Transformation.

I've had an incredible 6 years building the brand SUSTOMi, creating and selling our gorgeous sustainable, reusable homewares. And have loved the process of bringing new products to life and engaging with our wonderful customers - there are many, many thousands of you now!
When I created the word SUSTOMi, I wrote down everything I wanted by brand to represent. 2 words stood out and became the backbones of the word SUSTOMi: SUSTAINABLE and HOME. Alongside these words, I wrote down HEALTH and the EARTH. I do believe these come hand in hand and without looking after our own health first, we probably won't be willing and able to help support sustainability and the earth. 'sustainable' and 'earth' became a strong focus, with 'health' and 'home' sitting as pillars.

For 6 years, we have shared our low-waste and plastic free tips, and you know what? I really believe it HAS HELPED! We are now seeing the same products SUSTOMi (and other awesome low-waste warrior businesses have brought into the world), sitting on shelves of the major chain-stores, and in the majority of school lunch boxes and fridges - YAY! I'm seeing this as a massive win. Small businesses like SUSTOMi have changed consumer demand, AND consumer behaviour!
Now, I'm raising the bar, and deepening how SUSTOMi will help create a more sustainable, healthier lifestyle for us all. The SUSTOMi products you know and love are here to stay, and you'll notice the addition of some new content and services. Yes, Services!
