Early labour is such a vulnerable window of labour and I think a lot of women accidentally use so much energy before labour has even really established.

The women I see cope best are usually the ones protecting their nervous system early on, eating, resting, staying in their bubble, and not turning contractions into a full-scale production too soon.

Your body is building momentum and Hormones are rising slowly. Your job is to support your body while it does the work.

I’ve just released a FREE email video series for couples all about:
• what to actually do in early labour
• how to stay grounded at home
• when to start timing contractions
• how to transition to hospital without losing your flow

It’s practical, calming, and designed for both you AND your birth partner.

I’ve been hinting at this for a little while now and I’m so excited to finally share it!

I’ve created a free video series for pregnant couples all about early labour and the transition to hospital, because I really think this part of labour catches people off guard.

So much focus gets put on transition, pushing, breathing techniques and coping once labour gets really intense but the early stages matter so much too. The flow of labour can change really quickly when people start second guessing themselves, rushing, over-analysing contractions or feeling unsure about when to head in.

I really wanted to create something that helps couples feel more calm and prepared in the earlier hours of labour before things get intense, especially for partners who are present and want to help but often feel unsure about what is actually helpful at this point.

The training is practical, reassuring, easy to revisit, and sent straight to your inbox so you can watch it as many times as you need. Definitely get your birth partner to watch it with you too.

You can sign up through the link in my bio or at maddythedoula.com.au through the pop-up.

And if you know someone pregnant right now, I’d absolutely love if you shared this with them 🌼

Sophie’s birth story is really inspiring and very real and honest about the intensity of birth. She talks about the unbearable back pain and how she worked through it, her crisis of confidence and how her support team showed up for her, the different things she used to work with the intensity and how incredible it was to birth her baby in her power as she’d envisioned throughout her pregnancy. I love this photo of Sophie in the bath in the depths of labour, and I know this moment too well as a doula, when it feels like labour is too much, but somehow we keep going and our babies are born. Can’t wait to share tonight! ✨

POV: it’s Mother’s Day this Sunday and you’ve got a little feeling your man has no idea it’s even coming

so instead of doing that thing where you say “it’s fine” and then feel a bit off all day…
just send him this

Sharing your needs is important right.. not nagging just saying
“hey, this is what would actually make the day feel really nice for me”
a lot of men aren’t trying to get it wrong, they just don’t think about it the way we do
and then we end up carrying the whole thing in our heads and feeling a bit resentful by the afternoon

But we don’t actually need to do that

you can just be clear, give him a chance to show up, and enjoy the day instead of managing everyone else

save it, send it to him, or send it to a friend who will 100% be hinting all week ❤️

Today is International Day of the Midwife, and from the perspective of a doula, I’ve been reflecting on the role midwives play in birth and just how much their presence can shape the experience.

I was at a birth a while ago supporting a woman labouring during a physiological VBAC. She’d been labouring for a while and we were doing body work and working with her baby’s positioning. I was over to the side giving the couple privacy and the midwife paused for a moment and said to me, “I really thought when I came into this work I’d be doing more of what you’re doing… but I’m so caught up in all the clinical stuff,” as she went off to do another set of observations. I could really feel her heart for birth and she was incredibly supportive throughout the labour

I find myself coming back to that moment often because it’s such a deep insight into what so many midwives are feeling.. this real care for women and for birth, alongside the demands and structure of the system they’re working within.

And when I think about the midwives who make a real difference in the room, it’s the ones who find a way to hold both. Continued in the comments 💜

Sophie is so generously sharing her birth story with us here tomorrow. You can really feel through her words the intensity and power she experienced while labouring and birthing her first baby at home. You’re going to love this one 🥰 Sophie is a midwife herself and so we’ve timed this story to be shared tomorrow when it’s International Day of the Midwife. What an incredible profession to be in, we are so lucky to have so many wonderful midwives like Sophie (who I was lucky enough to be alongside supporting a birth a few years ago!) and the home birth midwives in this story do such an incredible job supporting women and families which you’ll read all about 💜 stunning birth photography by the talented

So many women assume they’ll figure things out along the way, and then suddenly they’re in labour, things are happening fast, people are talking at them and they realise no one taught them what to expect or how to navigate the different options.

That’s exactly why I created my Birth Guidance Session.

It’s two hours, just us, going through your birth preference, your questions, what to expect, how to work through labour and anything on your mind.. it’s your time.

I can guide you through your options with clear, grounded, practical guidance so you walk into birth actually knowing what’s happening and how to handle it.

If you want that kind of support, check out my investment guide on my website or DM me “GUIDANCE” and I’ll send you the details ✨
