💜 Perinatal Mental Health Matters 💜

Pregnancy and the transition to parenthood can bring joy, excitement, and anticipation—but they can also be challenging. Anxiety, depression, stress, and feelings of overwhelm can affect anyone during pregnancy and in the first year after birth.

It's important to remember that support is available, and seeking help is a sign of strength.

The Australian organisation PANDA (Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia) provides free support, information, and resources for expecting and new parents experiencing mental health challenges.

If you're struggling, feeling overwhelmed, or concerned about your emotional wellbeing during pregnancy or after the birth of your baby, please reach out to your healthcare team or contact PANDA for support.

You are not alone, and help is available. 💜

We're excited to share that our wonderful midwife, Robyn, has officially started running antenatal classes for our obstetric patients! 🤍

These sessions provide a relaxed and supportive environment for expectant parents to learn about pregnancy, labour, birth, and caring for their new baby, while also connecting with other families on a similar journey.

A big thank you to the patients pictured for kindly providing consent for us to share this special moment. We look forward to supporting many more families through these valuable classes in the months ahead.

This June, the National Breast Cancer Foundation is encouraging Australians to “Go Pink” to help fund vital breast cancer research and move closer to a future of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.

There are many ways to get involved:
🎀 Wear pink
🎀 Shave or colour your hair
🎀 Host a pink-themed event
🎀 Make a donation or support a fundraiser

Did you know?
Every day, 56 people in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer, and 9 people lose their lives to the disease.

📢 A major milestone for Australian maternity care. 📢

Australia’s world-first national preterm birth prevention program has received a $6.8 million Federal Government boost, announced by the Assistant Minister for Health, the Hon Rebecca White, at a special event at Royal Hobart Hospital today.

This investment into the Every Week Counts program will help expand access to early screening for preterm preeclampsia, strengthen culturally safe care initiatives for First Nations families, and support more maternity services across metropolitan, regional and remote Australia.

Most importantly, it means more women and babies will benefit from evidence-based care that helps pregnancies continue safely for longer.

We thank the Australian Government and Assistant Minister for Health, The Hon Rebecca White, for their ongoing support of this important national initiative, as well as the clinicians, midwives, Aboriginal perinatal leaders, researchers, consumers and families who continue driving this work forward every day.

🤰💉 RSV Vaccination in Pregnancy 💉🤰

All pregnant women from 28 weeks gestation are strongly recommended to receive the RSV vaccine (Abrysvo), funded under the National Immunisation Program (NIP).

The vaccine is available free* (for medicare holders) through:
• General Practice
• Community pharmacies
• Some antenatal care providers

Infants are considered protected if their mother received the vaccine at least 2 weeks before delivery.

This program commenced on Monday 3 February 2025.

RSV vaccination during pregnancy helps protect newborns from severe RSV illness during their first months of life.
